TC MediaPlayer video format compatibility

Post by *Quisquose »

From what I have read, TC Media Player uses the the built-in MediaPlayer, and so it will be able to play any video file that is supported by Android itself.

However, I am finding that certain file formats don't show video. I have some .avi and some .mpg files that only play audio.

Meanwhile, other files such as .mp4, .wmv and .flv play just fine.

I've not yet checked to see what codec has been used inside the containers of the files that refuse to play, but it seems to affect all files of those extensions. It's not as if some .avi extension files play, while others don't.

Does anyone else experience anything similar, or can anyone shed any light on how to get the video of these file types to play?

Yes, TC uses the built-in MediaPlayer control. However, avi is just a container which may use many different video formats (codecs). The videos you can't play are using video codecs not supported by Android. Try using a player with its own codecs, like VLC.
