CANCEL does not react (PAUSE does) when F5 on large folder

Post by *tmcdos »

I use TC 9.0a, I have a folder which contains 999 subfolders and each of them contains between 1-999 subsubfolders and each of them contains between 1-999 files. So the total number of files and folders is more than 150 000.
I try to copy this whole folder to another place and I hit the F5. TC starts counting the number of files and bytes in order to show a proper total progress.
When I want to cancel the copy operation I press ESC or click on the CANCEL button but there is no reaction - TC continues to count files and bytes.
However, the PAUSE/START button reacts immediately.
I think that the CANCEL button or clicking on the X icon of the popup modal window must also react immediately - so I am reporting the current behavior as a bug.

ESC should stop the counting and start the copying immediately. However, you need to press ESC long enough to make it happen. Cancel should react immediately when a file is encountered.

ESC does not stop until all the files and folder are counted.
The same for Cancel.
Clicking on Pause immediately stops counting - but then clicking on the Cancel (when paused) immediately resumes counting.
If Pause can react immediately - so should the Cancel (and ESC), don`t you think ?
There is no way to cancel the calculation of the number of files and the space other than killing the TC from Task Manager (the actual copying process can be cancelled - but my problem is with cancelling the process of calculation of the total size in bytes)

Do you need me to record a videocast showing the erroneous behavior - or you can reproduce it without my help ?

No, that wouldn't help me reproduce it. Can anyone else reproduce this problem?

If you are able to create 100 folders and then 111 subfolders in each of those 100 folders and then 32 files of varying sizes in each of these 11100 subfolders on your playground - this should reproduce my case.

If you are unable to do this - I can provide a 6 GB archive of my problematic folder structure. You will definitely see what I am talking about ...

I will try to create a test case with batch files.

Hi

Did you have a chance to create a test case, or was the test unsuccessful ?

Yes, it's fixed, and it will be in the next version. I cannot say yet when this will be released, sorry.
