Automatic update of file content when viewed in lister

Post by *nottosave »

I use the file lister (F3) to look at and monitor log files in my work.

The content can be updated with F2 when the lister have focus, but it would be nice if the content was updated when the file content change.
And also that the lister shows the "bottom" of the file after it has been changed.
Maby a checkbox in the lister program to select this functionality.

Now I use F2 to update and then press page down to see the new changes in the file.

Or does someone have another solution for this?

Maybe SynWrite Lister plugin can do both things? I know that it can automatically reload files when they're changed, but I don't know whether or not it can scroll to the file's end.

There is also another LogTail plugin (a bit old and 32-bit only).
Perhaps something like LogViewer would be more handy (it is not a plugin but you can easilly associate any file with a tool).

I tried SynWrite but could not get it to show the tail of the file after each update.

Log Viewer was able to, but the Pro version was 5$, not expensive but anyway.

Then I seached for a solution in Linux and found the tail command so I downloaded Windows Resource Kit Tools that includes a Tail.exe command.

Made a button in the button bar and added " - f %P%S" as parameters.

-f for following changes
%P%S gives me the path to the file selected

So now I can watch changes in real time.
I will try this for a couple of days and see how it works.

Thanks for the suggestions...
