How to change compressed files icon to WinRAR's ?

Post by *salam2009 »

Hey guys,
Is it possible to change the default icon of compressed files (rar, zip, iso, etc.) to the one that WinRAR uses by editing [PackerPlugins] in Wincmd.ini ?
Here's what I'm seeing now in v9.0a:

I tried installing different icon libraries but couldn't like any of them. Note that enabling "Show default folder/file icons from Exporer" option makes the folders icon even worse & doesn't change the compressed ones to WinRAR's either!
I'd highly appreciate anyone's help.
Thanks a lot in advance!

WinRAR-Icon - default parcel icon - treated like a folder.

Hi salam2009, just search the forum for 'winrar icon' to see it is not wanted by the author of TC.

I on my own just found this btw
viewtopic.php?p=324638#324638

The icon is an indicator of the behavior of archive inside of TC; they are treated like a folder.

So, there's no way to change the icon while keeping TC's behavior? I just don't like it. It's so generic & boring!

Icon library - http://rgho.st/6JKQZFYH9

Copy file from link into TC folder
Close TC
Add to section [Configuration] in wincmd.ini
IconLib=%Commander_path%\oxy-gnome4TCv2.dll
Restart TC

I've already checked this Icon library but didn't like the one used for compressed files. I also checked the other libraries but couldn't like them either.
That's why I was looking for a solution other than this (maybe by editing Wincmd.ini or something). Unless there's a library which isn't listed in:
http://totalcmd.net/directory/iconpack.html
In that case, I need to check it to make my decision.

You don't like RAR icon for compressed files from http://rgho.st/6JKQZFYH9? Hmm. What kind of RAR icon do you prefer? I can try to change or you
can DIY. Look at http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/

Whoa, didn't see that coming! :D
I thought your link has the same icon library of oxy-gnome4TCv2 found in iconpack link, so I overlooked it at first.
But after checking it now, I'm happy to say that you just nailed it!
Thank you so much for the amazing help, buddy :)

I stil don't understand why the author disabled the ability to change the RAR icon using Internal Association but you can still change the icon with Icon Library.

I updated to the latest beta and cannot confirm that this new icon feature actually works. Do I need to check some option or what?
