total commander 64 bit can not archivefiles in windows 10

Post by *splash3313 »

found the problem

if you go to

computer (drive overview)

then say downloads and try and zip or rar a file from this directory it will say it can not find the file.

thats cause

the path is \\downloads\

The compression command is not finding the file  however if you go to c:\users\ches\downloads\
which is essentially the same directory.
you can then compress files.

as you are using the command line parameters for compressing it does not allow \\download\ as a valid directory

Sorry, but what do you mean with archive ?
TC 9.x x64 can archive in any format which the x86 version supports
by plugin or native.

It works fine here in TC 9.0a and 9.10b2 under Windows 10 - What type of archive are you talking about - zip?

Maybe he tried to use a packer plugin with no 64-bit version available?

Or he disabled the use of the internal Zip-packer, without having an exteranl packer...

Directories starting with \\ in Windows are virtual directories (or Network directories). The content of virtual directories in TC is provided by Windows, not by the filesystem. Virtual folders often consist of elements from several physical folders (\\Desktop\) - or they only exist in Windows' Registry (\\Control panel\ or \\Devices and Printers\). There are several restrictions of what TC can do in those folders. Also notice that .zip files are shown in square brackets ijn TC - like directories.

If you enter an existing .zip file in a virtual directory and then leave it again, then you will end up in the physical directory.

TC can not show hidden files and directories, and you cannot change the properties of files in a virtual directory.

directory opus has no problems with this type of directory neither does powerarchiver which then seems to suggest that it has to be a fault with the internal packer, commands sent to the archiver.

Is there a work round as other file manager have done one?

Yes, use the real directories.
