[solved] Missing Help for obscure feature.

Post by *petermad »

This is not new to TC 9.10, but I just found out that when clicking in front of a File type in the "Internal Associations" dialog, then the first file type in that line is marked with a - and it's association is disabled.

This is not mentioned in the Help, nor mentioned in the history.txt file - and since it is not very easy to see that the * in the file type is replaced with a - you can easily accidently disable the association, when there is no way to know about this feature.

Also: if there are several file types in the same line, it is only the first file type that is disabled - IMHO it should be the whole line that is disabled.

Oh, I don't even remember adding this feature! I will document it and check why it's not disabling all types.

Why consider this is a feature? I think It is a bug because it doesn't disable the filter, instead it is change the filter to specific file name. e.g. *.txt become -.txt now any file named -.txt will open with the defined internal associated program.

No, it's a feature and I will not remove it. -.txt will still match files with exactly that name, but almost no one uses these - so it's a valid method to temporarily disable a file type. If you don't like it, just don't use it.

OK, I have documented it now, and changed it to convert the * to - also in additional extensions. Please test!

I can confirm fix, although this feature still seems not fully implemented.
What about predefined type? (starting with ">")
Can not be disabled using this feature!

Confirmed that this feature is now mentioned in the Help for TC 9.10rc1, and that it work for all extensions that start with an * in the same line :-)
