offending 7zip.wcx (0.7.6.6) crashes TC

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Not confirmed. I guess that the plugin has troubles with specific 7z files you have on your PC.

Can you try with a 7zip file which works here, e.g.

I will attempt to provide a sample soon but in the meantime this "Access Violation" message might help -> Image: https://i.imgur.com/LDXQUOs.jpg

Due to the sensitivity of the files I'm using, I can only test, retest if needed, and provide the call stack from the crash (see link below). Please download the ZIP file containing the call stack obtained from a debugger when 7zip.wcx crashed.

Let me know if that helps and if not I'll do my best to provide you when actual files.

The traces clearly show that the crash happens within the plugin, not in Total Commander. Since I'm not the author of the plugin, I can't really do anything about it.

Please try using the Total7zip plugin instead. It's also linked on our plugins page:
https://www.ghisler.com/plugins.htm

It would be very helpful to get a 7zip file causing this problem, so I can send it to the plugin author. Maybe you can find out which file causes the crash, and then create an archive with the same file name but different content (if the name is the problem).

The plugin will also crash TC. In many situations TC is able to catch access violation exceptions and display the error in an alert box even for 7zip.wcx but in this specific case, 7zip will crash and take TC down with it.

I'm packing an entire folder not just a single file. When I isolate the actual file that causes TC to crash on its own including its folder structure and attempt to pack using only that file, the packing works but when I pack the entire folder containing the actual file as well as other folders and files, the crash happens.

So, based on the above I need to provide the entire folder not just the file that causes TC to crash. I will see how to provide that very soon. In the mean time I'm using Total7zip.
