Sudden crash ather closing Nero Burning ROM Portable

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

I will check it, thanks.

Are you able to reproduce it somehow?

Yes. It happens every time I use Nero B.R.
I remember such crashes since 9.0 or even some of 8.x versions, just after updating Nero.

My Nero version is apparently too old for this to happen. So far I couldn't find any reasons for this crash, sorry.

Please do not link to Warez, we could get into legal trouble for that.

I have tried this in a VirtualBox session now (which I reverted to original after testing). So far no crash.
Here is what I tried:
1. Run Total Commander 9.10 64-bit
2. Unpack 7zip archive to c:\Nero
3. Double click NeroPortable.exe -> it starts as elevated user
4. Close NeroPortable.exe via Alt+F4 or click on "X"
-> No crash

What am I doing wrong?

Simple open/close operation does not cause any crash.

1. Run Total Commander 9.10 64-bit
2. Unpack 7zip archive to c:\Nero
3. Double click NeroPortable.exe -> it starts as elevated user
3a. Create new project
3b. Add some files
3c. Burn CD or DVD
3d. Close project

4. Close NeroPortable.exe via Alt+F4 or click on "X"

I have tried that too - no crash. I used the image writer in step 3c, though, because I cannot burn within Vmware. Do you get a crash when using the image writer?

If not, then the crash is probably caused by a malformed WM_DEVICECHANGE message when the CD is completed. You will probably get a crash even when not closing Nero and just returning to TC.

Yes, you can. This is possible since VMware Workstation 4.x or 5.x IIRC. Just set the VM to use the physical drive, and you should be able to use it as a writer in the VM. You might want to use RWs for this test though ;).

Sorry, I have to postpone that to a later release. The beta test for TC 9.12 has already gone for too long.

Did you test with the image writer?

I just tried a burn within Vmware, and it indeed worked - but there was no crash after closing Nero!

WM_DEVICECHANGE does get called, though, so you can try to disable TC's reaction to it.
