WebDAV error "network name cannot be found"

Post by *jazzz »

When I try to connect to a network folder (Net/Network connections)
https://surfdrive.surf.nl/etc I get the error: 0x80070043 "network name cannot be found"

in a windows command line: net use x: https://surfdrive.surf.nl/etc I get the same "network name cannot be found" but with "System error 67 has occurred"

I can access the Surfdrive through my browser.

Reinstalled WebDAV plugin. This used to work in TC, so I can rule out a typo.. Is a Windows 10 machine, all updated.

Can it be a Windows security setting issue? Which I did not changes, but Windows might have.

Any idea how to solve this?

Error 67 (decimal) is the same number as error 0043 (hexadecimal).

Are you sure the /etc path is correct? The FAQ says that you should go to https://surfdrive.surf.nl/files and get a unique WebDAV password from there. Maybe it tells you what URL to use with WebDAV too.

Thank you for your reply.
Yes you are right that seems to be a user-specific URL. But the URL I used should be ok. 1) TC remembers the path. But of course that can be changed. So 2) yesterday and just now I copied the full path from my Surfdrive account (I did not post the full path since it does not seem very safe to share..) and pasted in Map Network Drive/Folder without quotes or anything.

I also tried http://files.2he.com/uploads/ (from some forum).
To no avail, the message appears within half a second..

Update: after posting tried it again. I'm connected now, actually twice: with the same path with and without / at the end. So maybe a temporary hickup at Surfdrives end?

Update 2: since last post I was never able to connect again.. The Surfdrive is there, up and running (Surfdrive software, webpage), but not accessible with WebDAV

Try defining a drive letter for this in menu net - network connections. It uses the Windows WebDAV client instead of mine.

By downloading my WebDAV plugin from here:
https://www.ghisler.com/plugins.htm#filesys

To install, double click on the downloaded zip file within Total Commander. To use, go to "Network": Alt+F1, Drive "\".

Thank you. I get Error: 401 Unauthorized. I copied/pasted all entries from a file. That should be ok cause with the same copies I can view the Surfdrive in my browser. I left all settings untouched, except for path, user, pw..

Could you try ask Surfdrive support for the right WebDAV URL?

Ok, progress: it turned out that Surfdrive is updated as of 12/12. So I can connect now. Two questions though:
- WebDAV plugin does not remember anything, implying I have to copy-paste address, login, pw. WebDAV is creating an FTP connection, but using FTP connect (which saves the entries) is not able to connect to Surfdrive
- WebDAV changes all uploaded time/date stamps of files/folders to now

Are there solutions available for these issues?

- WebDAV doesn't create FTP connections, it just uses the ftp toolbar for connections. It does store settings, in the same directory as wincmd.ini (Location: See help - about Total Commander). Make sure you have write rights there.

- The WebDAV protocol doesn't support the uploading of the file timestamp with the file

Ok, thank you. That implies very limited use of WebDAV for me: I usually need the timestamps.
My ini-files are always updated, so o I do have the write access. But in both wincmd.ini wcx_ftp.ini there's is no registration of the connection..
