Post by *Michael REMY »

hi,

i lost a password i use for several zip/rar archived.

i remember i used it a lot of times by copy/paste in TC window dialog box when i unpack the files.

But i lost it

does TC keep a log or history of all the password i used before ?
As Winrar doe tha feature, maybe TC does too..

Thank for any kind of help.

Best regards
i'm an old long user of TC since the windows 3.11 release !, for the history, i came to tc when i migrate from amiga commodore to PC where they are diskmanager and directory opus there.

Of course TC do NOT store passwords for later reuse.

I can't imagine WinRAR will keep a list for later access by user?
Your passwords would be never secure again.

TC only keeps the password for the current archive (or smtg like that), if the password will be need more then once for unpacking several files.
I don't use that feature, others can provide more info about I am sure.

yep, i confirm, Winrar manages la list of passwords.

i ask for TC because i noticed TC kept (somewhere...in memory or .ini file) the last password i use, and often maybe in the 15next minutes, it re-uses it instead of ask me when i need to unpack another archive (with same paswword).

that could be a feature in next release :
- history for password of archives
- a list to keep "famous" i often use.

From TC help:

Code: Select all

KeepPackerPassword=0 Used together with option "RememberLastPassword". Allows to keep last archive password when:
1: The program is minimized
2: The screen saver starts
3: both

...

RememberLastPassword=0 Set to 1 to remember the last used archive password for all other archives (packing+unpacking) until TC is closed, minimized or Windows goes to sleep
