Bizarre file attrib problem

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Bizarre file attrib problem

Post by *mikeyww »

Strange file attrib problem. Right panel thinks that this file is read-only, but left panel thinks that the same file is not read-only. It actually is read-only.

Does a refresh (Ctrl+R) on both panels help?

Refresh sometimes works and sometimes not.

Refresh options: Image: https://i.imgur.com/OE0TaG5.png

One thing that does work is navigating to a different directory and then back to this one. The correct attributes are then shown.

When I look at https://i.imgur.com/aqMfTSm.png I also notice that the two first filenames are not green on the left side, but are so on the right side - another indication that the left panel is not updated.

Looking at https://i.imgur.com/OE0TaG5.png shows that you have disabled updating of the Footer - so you can not expect the Footer to show the right info about the file attribute.

Try and enable all refresh settings except "Don't react to updates while in the background" and see if you still experience the problem...

I'll do that, but of course, appearance of both panels should be identical regardless of settings, since they are using the same settings.

But only the active side is updated under certain conditions.

When the earlier problem occurred, it happened regardless of which panel was active, and even after pressing CTRL-R several times in each panel. In addition, using TC to check the file attributes manually (Files -> Change attributes) confirmed the problem. Although the problem happened many times on that day, it has not recurred yet. I will watch for it.
