[Bug] in dynamic files sizes displaying

Post by *vilos »

In all versions of Total Commander I found a bug in dynamic file sizes displaying (e.g. x.x K/M/G). The Total Commander never shows Giga (G) prefix, even if the file size is much greater than 1024^3 bytes. For example, it shows 38GB as 38912.0 MB.

Confirmed. , and bytes are not properly aligned to Kb or Mb.

I removed this at an early stage because it was just too unprecise to show 4GB instead of e.g. 4400MB.

Yes, that's true. So then I think that better idea should be to add there G prefix and also add there one or two more options to show sizes with better precision, e.g. x.xx k/M/G and/or x.xxx k/M/G. That should be enough precision for everyone 8)

Yes, I agree. If I want precision, I just turn this option off. But mostly we care about proportions, and there the k/M/G/T helps mostly.
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

To Author:
Please add an additional option for dynamic size display that does display GBytes's. I would realy like this.

Rename the current display dynamic (x k/M/G) to dynamic (x k/M), which is more correct as G is not used!
and add a dynamic (x k/M/G) that does use show G's.

:) Hello !
¤ This issue is discussed on the ß-tests forum too currently…

¤ Personally, I would be in favour of :
1. Getting a "GB" value displayed really for the drives total and free space, when "Dynamic with decimal…" is chosen. This could be applied to the "Status-bar" and the drives, while currently the drive values are related on the same option than for the file-lists…
2. Like several users request, only (x k/M) and (x k/M.n) for the file-lists.
¤ With the big HDs we have nowadays, I think that i.e. : “120 GB of 160 GB free” is sufficient, and takes less room in a drives button-bar… With small hard disks, it could be i.e. : “3.5 GB of 6.2 free”.
¤ The must should be indeed to have three options (3 comboboxes), I mean adding one for the drives only…

  Kind regards,
Claude
