Total Cummander wrote:Or at least moving announcements to their separate subforum here so we can RSS follow only that?
I've seen than in other forums. Seems like a nice idea and pretty easy to implement. Personally i don't use RSS but i like the idea of a separate Announcements forum (readonly to all users except Christian). Seems more clear.

Hi I am a new here. My problem is that I have a weak internet since I am using a USB broadband connection and I am far from a cell site. Would attaching a TC RSS feed slow down my browser (firefox)? Thanks.

I mean, something like: www.ghisler.ch/board/rss.php?login&f=3, that returns all new posts from the English forum, but only returning the first unread post of every topic. I think that would be the best way for reading the forum through RSS.

EDIT: Now I see this RSS PHPBB mod is being discussed in this PHPBB.com topic, so I should ask there, shouldn't I?

Current version: RSS Feed 2.2.4
RSS feeds of this forum contain: "<generator>RSS Feed 2.2.0</generator>"

Does this mean there is a newer version than used?

The changelog on the linked page doesn't say anything about such an option to show only the first posts. Where do you see this?

I don't. I interpreted your statement "I will install any updates..." differently ;-)

Main Page (http://www.ghisler.ch/board/index.php) sends:

English Forum (http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewforum.php?f=3) sends:
http://ghisler.ch/board/rss.php?f=3
Any thread, eg. this one in English forum (http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=6807) sends:
http://ghisler.ch/board/rss.php

IMHO, the last one should send:
http://ghisler.ch/board/rss.php?f=3
cause it's a part of English forum.
ghisler(Author) wrote:Seems to be a bug of the RSS extension for phpbb. I will check whether I can fix it myself.
Perhaps this was fixed in the new version. Some unspecified fixes were made. The new version did include a new parameter "topic" so you can subscribe to a single thread (nice!).

BTW. The download link seems to be broken, but you will find a download link fast when searching for "rssfeed_2.2.4.zip". I believe this is the MD5 of the original file:

Code: Select all

I created the wiki page Web feeds. Check it out.

I suggest to remove the sticky-ness  of this thread and create an new short sticky post about the feeds. It could be combined with the note about the wiki.

For example rename the post "Total Commander Knowledge Base (Wiki)" to "Wiki and web feeds".

Thanks White! That was helpful in setting up a feed in Firefox for the Dutch sub-forum. I used http://www.ghisler.ch/board/rss.php?atom&f=9&c=50 and that worked for a couple of weeks, but it no longer does (maybe because no new messages have been posted in two weeks?). Firefox now says "Live Bookmark feed failed to load" and when I visit the link, I get a very philosophical error "something wrong in that life".

Do you have any suggestions as to how I might get it to work again? I also tried these variations without much luck:
http://www.ghisler.ch/board/rss.php?atom&f=9
http://www.ghisler.ch/board/rss.php?f=9&c=50
http://www.ghisler.ch/board/rss.php?f=9

(If I can be picky, the ideal feed (to me) would only list topic titels, not individual messages).

This is stupid that you cannot use RSS only for announcement of TC, in other words only RSS for new versions including alpha and beta releases. Shown on this page http://www.ghisler.com/whatsnew.htm

RSS is extremely taxing on the server, because it usually checks every hour or even more, and makes http requests.

My update checks work only once a day with DNS lookups, which are cached by internet access providers. So please use these instead.

The new board now supports the "Smartfeed" extension. There is a link in the title to configure it, and get a custom feed URL with your preferred options.

Hi Christian

I love RSS-Feeds and use it daily.
With the new RSS-Feed the feed name is written on every entry.

Therefore the Title of the feed is not readable.

Is this configurable?
I already know that I use the TotalCommader RSS-Feed ;)
The language/subforum is nice to know, but not essential.

Thank you
