[TC 11.00b6-rc1] The 'a' command is not allowed in the Zip packer setup for 7z/7zG

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[TC 11.00b6-rc1] The 'a' command is not allowed in the Zip packer setup for 7z/7zG

Post by *Fla$her »

In the 5th beta version, setting 7zG.exe a ... did not lead to errors. In the 6th and further, there is a packaging failure.
At the same time, there is no clarification about this anywhere in the help.
Configuration - ZIP-Packer wrote:7z ... The packer specified is 7zg.exe (preferred) or 7z.exe. It will be used to create ZIP archives, not 7z archives! For that please install one of the plugins 7zip or total7zip from our homepage.
It is possible to specify parameters like -mcu=on behind the program name.

This works for me
Zip packer: "C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7zg.exe" -mcu=on
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3527)
TC 11.03 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1373a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.3, Listary Pro 6.3.0.73
QAP 11.6.3.3 x64

Zip packer: "C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7zg.exe" -mcu=on
This is not the case. Read carefully what is written.

A post in some topic is not a reference material. There are two ways out: either TC will ignore (exclude) repetition, or the help should clearly indicate the prohibition of specifying 'a'. I'm for the first approach.

You must not set 'a' when checking 7Z as the packer in Configuration - Options - ZIP packer. Why? 'a' is only appropriate for adding files, but the same program is also used for deleting files. I will change the help to:
It is possible to specify parameters like -mcu=on behind the program name, but not commands like a.

And why not divide the path to the packer and the packaging parameters into two fields? Then it will be easier to understand that a full-fledged command is not required.

Why would you want to add the 'a' command when TC adds it by itself when you check the "7Z" checkbox? This is not neccessary.

I didn't write that I wanted to add something. I write that even as an experienced user it's not clear to me why the command should look incomplete. If you make a separate field for the packaging parameters, then there will be no need for the 'a' command, since it's not a packaging parameter. This approach will be consistent with the natural logic of data perception.

I see that a clarification has appeared in the RC2 version help. In this case, the problem, even if not in the best way, can be considered solved. Please move the topic to the fixed bugs section.

Although if the problem is only that the new field doesn't fit on the settings page, then it's possible to place 3 radio buttons in one line, removing the word "compression".
