For a portable/traveling installation of TC i would be very careful with everything and not install on the TC distib. The advantage of the tool is to have indexes built on drive you use everyday. In background, it update from "change trigger" to be blazing fast. For a traveling install you should turn off the indexing to avoid conflict and wrong results and also filling indexes in a slow device. The best is to ask your fiends to install it and configure TC to use the installed one.

2 corrections
1. The name is Everything and not Everywhere.
2. In no way is the TC search function faster than Everything.
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3593)
TC 11.03 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1376a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.3, Listary Pro 6.3.0.78

Horst.Epp,

It's faster if you don't use Everything.

Don't you think that the implementation itself, in which the program embedded in TC to speed up the search cannot be used for this purpose everywhere, is devalued, being uncharacteristic of TC?
That's why I suggest embedding the MFT search, not just indexing data into the database from it.

Nevertheless, if TC is used on the side not for a couple of minutes, but for at least half an hour or more, then there is nothing wrong with MFT indexing, especially since it will be in the background. It is enough to rename your database or make a backup.
Overquoting is evil! 👎

You must have a very special system or setup, if a TC only global search is faster than the same search using Everything.
I use Everything since it's very first version on all kinds of system, even large servers.
Never had any benefit in using TC search without Everything.

Horst.Epp,
I wasn't clear. If you are not using Everything, as in, it is not on your system, and you would need to download, unpack and run it, then it's usually faster to use TC's internal search.

2Moderators

I suggest moving all posts from here after the last post here.
These posts are only about Everything and no longer about renaming.

Please delete my post (this one) afterwards as well.

You will be right in a lot of cases, but I just had to replace all 64-bit 7z.dll versions with a more recent one and was amazed how little time it took with Everything, so I accepted your "challenge". Just for the fun of it ... :D

In TC, just the search alone (pressing the search button until all search results were found) took 2 minutes and 1 second.
Don't know how I could specify to list only 64-bit versions. Will likely need somne plug-in for that.

This is what it looked like in Everything:
(UAC prompts are not shown as they run in a different session. Also: don't mind the artifacts; it should still be enough to get the big picture ...)

Not trying to convince anyone to start using Everything. Everyone makes his/her own considerations.
And as @nsp already pointed out: Everything is not really suited for a 100% portable "install", like running from an USB-stick.
The rest of his post is also spot-on

Tough crowd today ;)

But fair enough: it was not the same, so I decided to do it all over again (this is the last time I voluntarily remove Everything from my system :D )
New result: around 1 minute, 40 seconds (exact times are in the statusbar of the screencapture)
