Feature request: FTP recursive chmod function

Post by *majkels »

Hello,

I recently needed to change write permissions to a set of files and folders on an FTP server. Total Commander 6.53 was not able to help me - I couldn't use the recursive mode of CHMOD (maybe not supported by the FTP server).
Thus my idea for a new feature:
- add checkbox "recurse subdirectories" to "change file attributes" option.
It would also be useful to be able to select between files and folders (for example: recurse subdirectories but give new rights only to files not to folders).

kind regards,
Michal

In a german thread user Walter456 makes nearly the same suggestion.

On servers that don't support recursive chmod it would be nice,
if TC could do the recursive job by changing the attributes for each file one by one -
thus bypassing the server restrictions.
Who the hell is General Failure, and why is he reading my disk?

Sorry to revive this old thread, but the feature request made by majkels is a very important one.

I had to use FileZilla to recursively change file attributes on a server (FZ does it exactly how StatusQuo described TC could). Sure, it did the job, but I always considered tcmd to be this ultimate file manager that can do anything, so using a secondary application felt weird ;)

I'd love this feature, so I bumb this thread.

My site recently got hacked. Turns out some idiot plugin to my forum had all files set to 777 or 666, and I missed to change some of the files.

What is really good is the possibility to clear/set certain attributes, leaving the others untouched. To my knowledge FileZilla does not support that. Wildcards yes, but in my case I want to leave everything untouched except the w-flag for group and world.

So, same feature that there is today, but with that checkbox for recursive mode would be awesome.
