[BUG] MRT - Replace characters.
I found this in HISTORY.TXT:
30.10.05 Added: Multi-rename tool: Replace characters (returned by plugins) which are not allowed in file names by underscores or dots
As for me this is bug, not feature !
This should be perform after all user actions, even search & replace !!!
I often use original url as a file comment.
Example 1.
file: tcmdr654.exe
comment: https://plugins.ghisler.com/654/tcmdr654.exe
Run MRT and set
Rename mask:file name: [=tc.comment]
Extension: (empty)
Search for: :|/
Replace with: -
New name should be: http---plugins.ghisler.com-654-tcmdr654.exe
but is: http.__plugins.ghisler.com_654_tcmdr654.exe
Example 2. (file from Netscape cache)
file: ABCDEF0101
comment: https://plugins.ghisler.com/654/tcmdr654.exe
Rename mask:file name: [=tc.comment]
Extension: (empty)
Search for: (http://.*/)
Replace with: <Clear>
New name should be: tcmdr654.exe
but is: http.__plugins.ghisler.com_654_tcmdr654.exe
Now i have many totally useless saved settings !
Mr Ghisler, please, fix this as quick as possible !!!

This is a BUG, not feature - should be perform after search and replace !!!
otherwise you can type:
search _
replace /
and TC does nothing with it !
(New name should be
http---plugins.ghisler.com-img-unpack32_654a.exe
NOT
http---plugins.ghisler.com-img-unpack32-654a.exe)
or something like this http://www.site.net/files/____tcmdr.exe ?

Re: [BUG] MRT - comment as a new name.
Yes, I agree basically. Just I would call it a buggy feature instead of opposing the bug to the feature.Gral wrote:I found this in HISTORY.TXT:

By the way: Which disallowed characters are replaced by underscore (_) and which by dot (.)?
Such remarks will probably not speed up the suggested change/correction.Gral wrote:I'm wait for quick fix !

Even if it is performed before user activated Search&Replace, a simple on the fly setting to allow the end user to choose what character to use when replacing illegal filename chars would work - a setting that remembers what it last was/and or is also available in the INI.
Since TC does have some Unicode support, it wouldn't be impossible to set the character to something like the Pilcrow sign: ¶

This is the best of the listed requests, since it actually improves the tool.petergus wrote:How about highlight those file/folder that are not O.K.
Currently when the new file name isn't legal all we see is <Error!>
Something like: :\\SomeFile
Instead of <Error!>; Perhaps a userdefinable colour for the Illegal chars.
With additionally a new field to sort by [!] beside name, which would populate an exclamation mark for any illegal files
Fields:
[....Old Name....] [..Ext..] [..!..] [....New Name....]
Then just leave the resolution of fixing the illegal names to the end user with a search/replace mask.
50 point from Gryffindor. One more exercise pls.Gral wrote:Hacker Moderator wrote:Petrificus totalus!
