Kann man das irgendwie konfigurieren, dass sich an dieser Stelle der Total Commander auch so verhält?

Im Gegenteil, Explorer führt die Änderung sofort aus, auch wenn man noch nicht fertig ist und irgendeine Meldung sich den Fokus klaut.
Dann darf man mal raten wie diese halb umbenannte Datei nun gerade heißt und wo in der Liste sie nun zu finden ist.

TC lässt den Dateinamen solange zuverlässig unverändert bis man die Änderung explizit bestätigt!

If you don't run Everthing 1.4.1.1024 as a service (which is usually recommended) it is possible to run it portable:

Place Everything.exe in for example TC's program folder on the portable drive

Use this in wincmd.ini:

Use this (for a start) as %COMMANDER_PATH%\Everything.ini

If you want to search in the path you must start the search string with *

No, this is NOT recommended for portable Everything!

Comments on this:
1. Total Commander: I would use a path WITHOUT spaces, e.g. x:\totalcommander_portable\ or C:\totalcmd\
2. A very common path for a portable TC installation is: C:\totalcmd\ (much shorter)
    Based on this path, it is already clear that it is probably a portable installation of Total Commander.

3. Everything:
    ATTENTION: Everything portable must be installed on your system drive which is usually the C drive and NOT X drive(!).
    If this is not set, there will be problems with the Everything Service(!)

    E.g. %COMMANDER_PATH%\tools\Everything\Everything.exe
    This corresponds to, e.g.
    - C:\totalcmd\tools\Everything\Everything.exe                             (without space in the path and folder "Everything"!)

I would recommend the 64 bit version in any case.
NOT because of the performance, but because the 32 bit version can only address 4 GB RAM (of which approx. 2 GB is available for the user).
(Only for Everything 1.5.0.1372a (x64), for example, I already need 1.55 GB RAM (for content indexing, etc.)).

Wenn man eine Datei umbenennt, ist man doch sowieso schon mit den Fingerchen auf der Tastatur, ich jedenfalls. Dann ist es doch nur noch ein Druck auf die Entertaste, um die Namensänderung zu bestätigen.

Hi Mr Ghisler, I was really overwhelmed when I saw the new Directory History screen. It was awsome feeling. Then I realized that I can use it in the absolutely the same manner as the old screen which was just a classic boring menu. Namely - I have to eyeball the exact directory I need because the filtering has strange behavior. I cannot help but think of it as missed oportunity - here is why:

The search field searches/filters only the leaf directory (the one after the last path separator in the path). Let me give you an example:

if we have the following directory list to search within:
- c:\my\complex\and\long\leafFolderName
- d:\main\FolderName\subfolder
- z:\FolderName\and\more\dirs\afterthat
- \\anotherpc\FolderName\and\more

and we search for "FolderName" only the first item gets found: "c:\my\complex\and\long\leafFolderName".
All the items contain this name and they all should be found but only the first one gets filtered.

If I want to search all the network paths starting with "\\anotherpc" - again no luck. It doesnt get found.

if I want to filter by device "z:\" again - no luck.

My suggestion is this filtering/searching to work not only for the last folder in the path but for the entire path.

because it starts Everything in the background if Everything has not been started yet and
if a search in TC is done using Everything.

Check whether you have these recommended settings:
[✓] Start Everything on system startup
[ ] Run as administrator
[✓] Everything Service

and to make it too portable ->

Thanks for reporting this.

In the meantime you may want to deploy a script (bat/VBS/PoSh) with the setup.exe and do all need steps from there.

- execute the script instead of the setup
- check if TC runs
- show the user a message that TC need to be closed
- wait till TC doesn't run
- execute the setup

I'm note quite sure what you mean. Do you have the 7-Zip path in your "path" environment variable? Then you could use 7za.exe instead of %szexe%, see "rem" line below.
Or do you have the 7za.exe in the same folder as the archives? Then you could use the second "rem" line.

I tried to remotelly update Total Commander on all our computers using command "tcmd1103x64.exe /A1H1L11N*". When Total Commander is running on the target computer, silent install will run without error. It does not update the installation. But it does change the version of TC in the registry to the current version. How to reproduce this:

TC 10 is running
tcmd1103x64.exe /A1H1L11N* is run remotelly
TC 10 remains installed and running
version 11.03 is shown in the Control Panel

This is a problem because our remote deployment software reads TC version from the registry and displays that all computers have 11.03 installed. Which is not true. Several older versions remained on some computers. We are using Ninite Pro beta "custom packages" function and it lacks "custom steps" so we cannot kill running TC before installer is run.

Well, port 22 is the default SSH/SFTP port. But you could enter a port if a different port is configured for SSH, i.e.:
myserver.com:2222/path

Maybe you should try to use SCP (for all) in the properties window of your connection. Or if that option is already checked, then try without SCP.

Now, If in Dir1/DirA have a 200 files, and 100 of its contains 'b', search no need exams everyone file, but - in worst case - only 101 (in best: only 1).

If I use regular expression for search and have a 1 000 files in each of 1 000 folders my proposed solution make different in searching speed, if I need only folders contains files contains some text. No need to touch every of 1 000 000 files.

You could try the "EmptyDir" or "ZeroSizeDir" attribute from FileX in your search and user columns.

Alternatively you could install "Everything" and set "Calculate space occupied by subdirectories" to "Always, only with Everthing" in the TC settings.

Hi everybody.

For Imagine v1.5.2 is there a command line sub-parameter for /jpegtran transformation that processes the operation WITHOUT poping-up the confirmation window.
Old Imagine v1.1.6 was fine

Example like:
Imagine.exe /jpegtran --tran:270 --YESTOALL ... or ... -SILENT

Das "Mark of the Web" ist ein NTFS Alternate Data Stream namens "Zone.Identifier"

Für die Suche und einer benutzerdefinierten Spalte bietet sich das Plugin NTFSFileStreams.wdx an.
(Suche -> Plugins -> ntfsfilestreams -> Stream enthält zone.identifier)

Zum Bearbeiten gibt es NTFS FileStreams 2

Entfernen kann man dies auf verschiedene Arten, z.B. mit dem Tool Streams oder per PowerShell.

Hallo,

ich hab mir den Total Commander so konfiguriert, dass ich, wie im Windows Explorerer bspw. mit der F2 Taste Dateien umbenennen kann.
Nun ist es ja so, dass dann am Ende der gerade umbenannten Datei ein kleiner Haken ist der den neuen Dateinamen übernimmt.

Ich finde es aber sehr umständlich auf diesen Haken klicken zu müssen damit der neue Dateiname übernommen wird. im Windows Explorer ist dies besser gelöst: Jeglicher (mindestens) Linksklick irgendwo hin (bspw. die weiß Fläche des Explorers) übernimmt den neuen Namen. Dieses Verhalten kann der Total Commander aber nicht.

Kann man das irgendwie konfigurieren, dass sich an dieser Stelle der Total Commander auch so verhält?

Edit: Nachdem ich selber noch einiges recherchiert habe, sieht es wirklich so aus, als ob ein "Übernehmen des neuen Dateinamens per Linksklick "irgendwo hin"" nicht funktioniert. Es wäre wirklich sehr schön, wenn dies vielleicht mal implementiert werden könnte <3

Wir möchten TC 11.03 als App-V (VFS) Applikation unter Windows Server laufen lassen.

App-V Applikationen laufen in einer sogenanten "Bubble" (Sandbox), was heisst, dass alle gemachten Änderungen nach dem Ausloggen vom System verloren gehen. Beispiel: liegt wincmd.ini innerhalb des App-V Programmverzeichnis zB. "C:\Program Files\totalcmd", werden sämtliche Änderungen in der wincmd.ini zwar gespeichert, aber nach dem Logout des Users aus dem Windows ist alles weg (nicht persistent). Dasselbe passiert auch mit Dateien im %APPDATA%, da auch dieses mit Roaming virtualisiert wurde (nicht persistent).

Das App-V Packaging funktioniert nun soweit gut und wir konnten die wincmd.ini auf einem persistenten Netzwerk-Drive speichern, damit die eigenen Einstellung nicht jedesmal verloren gehen (u.a. Installation Option - User defined location). Nun haben wir das Problem, dass die Standard Rechte der Dateien "DEFAULT.BAR/VERTICAL.BAR" in der sogenannten App-V-"Bubble" Schreibrechte haben. Das veranlasst TC, dass die beiden veränderbaren Dateien nicht wie erwartet im persistenten Netzwerk-Drive (gleicher Ort wie wincmd.ini) gespeichert werden, sondern im nicht persistenten Programmverzeichnis. Gemäss Dokumentation bzw. Foren-Beiträge werden "DEFAULT.BAR/VERTICAL.BAR" in schreibgeschützen Verzeichnissen durch TC erkannt und automatisch in das wincmd.ini Verzeichnis kopiert und von dort aus verwendet inkl. vorgenommer Änderungen.

Nun zu meiner Frage/Bitte:
Kann man eine neue TC Installationsoption hinzufügen zB. "/P - Protected user files", um "DEFAULT.BAR/VERTICAL.BAR/etc." bei der Installation auf Read-Only zu setzen oder bewirkt, dass diese und andere User-Dateien am gleichen Ort wie wincmd.ini gespeichert werden?

then tried logging in with filezilla it worked (had to use port 22, don't see a port setting on your config screen.)

Ist es Total Commander (TC) möglich, die MotW-Flagge (Mark of the Web) effektiv zu verwalten? Kann es beispielsweise Aktionen wie die Suche nach dem Flag oder das rekursive Setzen/Löschen desselben ausführen, ähnlich der Funktionalität, die im Dialogfeld „Attribute ändern“ verfügbar ist? Es fällt mir schwer, die passenden Suchbegriffe für dieses Problem zu finden.

Oh der Groschen ist grade gefallen (sorry, Pfennigweise):
a) "Parameter=" darf nicht mit in die Parameterzeile übernommen werden
b) Die zu kopierenden Datein oder VZe müssen markiert sein (Was lustigerweise bei der fehlerhaften Parameterkonfig zu dem vorgenannten Fehler geführt hat, deswegen bin ich erste gar nicht auf die Idee gekommen ...)
c) Nein, man bekammt keine Meldung ob oder wie der Prozess abgeschlossen wurde. Abwarten und nach einer Weile checken.

is there a safe tool to exclude total commander in windows defender antivirus ?
i was running under w11 pro ,with windows defender antivirus On and it's amazing slow , even to turn off windows defender it's not easy
i have tried to use the registry and windows settings , windows defender antivirus was very fast with an high score some time ago ,now it's very slow with many false allarms

sometime i think to uninstall it and install a free antivirus with some advance options ,like kaspersky

Ich lade die .7z Datei im Browser herunter und öffne sie. Bisher ging 7z direkt auf, jetzt öffnet sich der Explorer.
Ich kann es wieder auf 7Zip umstellen.

Hier ein Beispiel für die Parameter eines Copy-Buttons der definitiv bei mir läuft.
Parameter=/cmd=Diff /balloon=FALSE /log /filelog /auto_close /srcfile_w="%WL" /to="%T"

Nochmals Danke Horst für Deine unermüdlichen Versuche mich auf die Fast(Copy) Lane zu bekommen. Mit Deinen Parametern erziele ich nun folgenden Effekt: Fastcopy wird gestartet - sonst nix. Die Ziel und Quellpfade werden nicht aus TC übernommen!? Ich würde mal vermuten, daß die Variablen srcfile_w="%WL" /to="%T" eben dafür da sind. Aber wie lass ich die befüllen?

Für mich habe ich jetzt erstmal eine andere Lösung gefunden: ROBOCOPY. Das wurde mir schon vor längerer Zeit in einem anderen Forum empfohlen, hatte mich aber zunächst nicht rangetraut. Ist aber garnicht so schwierig, wenn man sich von den 1000 Optionen nicht erschlagen läßt.

Schön wäre natürlich nach wie vor eine Lösung, die in Tc voll integriert ist.

@Ghisler: Ich vermute mal TC verwendet die XCOPY-Funktion von MS? Wenn TC statt dessen ROBOCOPY verwenden würde wäre das doch die optimale Lösung, nicht wahr? Da würde ich glatt noch freiwillig für ein Update bezahlen

Es ist ein Bug im handler - dieser meldet via QueryGetData Dateiformate in den Daten, die beim anschliessenden Aufruf von GetData nicht geliefert werden. Die Lösung scheint zu sein, dass man statt QueryGetData die Funktion EnumFormatEtc aufruft. Damit kann man auflisten, welche Formate tatsächlich übergeben wurden. Ich werde das so in die nächste Version einbauen.

Können Sie die 7zip-Datei nicht einfach im Total Commander direkt öffnen?

I referred to a behavior TC might once have had, and maybe still has, if one knows how-to. Explanation follows.

The content of descript.ion is valid as long no one changes the filenames commented on in their current location, or changes the location.

If any such changes happens then descript.ion is no longer valid. And then what. That was the reason for asking my question in this thread. Its about the validity of the descript.ion file.

I google'd around and stumbled over the old entry included above. Someone in an arbitrary forum claimed TC to have a useful behavior, I have never seen myself. That TC can track file name/location changes and update descript.ion automatically to reflect this. So I asked here, is it really possible to have TC behave like that. Simple question.

Even after 30 years use I still learn new trick related to TC. Occasionally.

Just as topic header, my HDD is in NTFS format. The files in HDD can be seen and opened just fine in android. But all of the files can't be seen in Windows PC (also there aren't taking any spaces just O byte). How can this be seen in Windows PC? I can't seem to find the way to show in Windows PC.

I would like to revive the stone age old descript.ion concept supported by TC. But TC does not update file changes by itself. Makes sense. But then I noticed the included old entry in XYPLORER. Has TC supported this file change management in the past. Is it enabled by some hidden INI setting ?

Some filemanagers (e.g. Total Commander and some others) allow to handle extended information (comments) for files in subsidiary files of type descript.ion, creating them in the same folder as is the objected file. But TrackerV does not work with these subsidiary files.

Naturally the result is always and totally lost information if using TrackerV for copyiing/moving/renaming of files.

If in Total Commander I rename a file C:\Documents\AAA.doc to [/b]C:\Documents\BBB.doc[/b], the proper changes are automatically made in files C:\Documents\descript.ion in this folder, so all the commets to the former file C:\Documents\AAA.doc belong now to the new file [/b]C:\Documents\BBB.doc[/b]; and this works the same way if move the file file C:\Documents\AAA.doc to C:\News\AAA.doc, etc.

But when I rename or move in TrackerV the file file C:\Documents\AAA.doc to C:\News\AAA.doc, the comment to this file still remains in the file C:\Documents\descript.ion, so it is not more associated with the faile and is practically lost.

Don't remember since what version this is possible but it must be working for (many) years now.

Folder tabs were introduced with TC 6.00 in 2003 and individual sorting in the tabs has been available since then.

Then just download the following file:

Open it with TC (double-click) and it will be installed directly. After that, open network neighborhood, there you will find SFTP. Create a new connection with F7. In the properties window which follows, enter server, username and password you used for FTP.

This is not a subject I'm knowledgeable on. From my provider:
To increase security of the webserver, I am changing my FTP to use SFTP instead of FTPS (FTP over TLS). Please update your FTP client to connect using SFTP. Everything else remains the same.

It doesn't matter. We have the CopyDirTimeStamp and CopyAllTimes options that control the change of timestamps when copying, the same can be done for folders when deleting/moving from them, restoring the previous date, especially since TC has its own deletion mechanism when Win95Delete=0 and VistaDelete=0.

It's not TC which updates directory timestamps but Windows or the underlying file-system. As soon as directory contents are changed (file added, removed) the timestamp changes. Check with other file-managers, Explorer or CMD and you will see the same thing.

This is the thread about the SFTP-Plugin (with access via SSH). If you want to access your ftp server, you do this via FTPS protocol. Please note: SFTP not equal FTPS (it's totaly different).

First Step to answer your question: SFTP or FTPS? (Maybe you ask your provider about it)

I don't know much about 'sftp' but I now need it to access my ftp site. I'm running version 11.01 (9/1/23) of commander. When will the plugin be available? Where do I get it? How do I install it? Will I need to update commander or will it go into this version?

When using reverse date sorting (my default), deleting contents inside folders causes them to end up on top, although there is no benefit in this, on the contrary, it's confusing, harms the visual assessment and structuring of viewed or processed content (media and documents) and you often have to spend extra time checking useful changes (creating/modifying).

The suggested option will fix this problem. For example: RestoreDirDateAfterDeletingContent=0/1

Yes it does, but you have to set a very specific start directory, otherwise you will get this error. On the server I tried the Webdav directory was named
/remote.php/webdav
but it depends on the server.

That's already possible in the current forum software and I've been using it for years. When in a subforum (thread overview if you will) click on the small red sheet of paper in front of the topic title (prosilver board style, can't say anything in regards to other styles). Yes, other forum software may have additional links in other places where one can jump to the newest unread post, e.g. XenForo has a link within a thread.

I am not suggesting a switch, just that if we want or need to switch one day, this forum looked nice. Can't remember any specific feature, WYSIWYG editing perhaps, maybe also something else caught my eye, can't remember anymore. Regarding specific functions, marking topics as solved would be nice, perhaps thanking users, and marking specific posts as "the correct / most helpful answer".

And is there an opportunity among them, when clicking on a topic that I am tracking and reading, to go IMMEDIATELY and ONLY to the last post that I have NOT READ? Otherwise, now such a situation is possible, when I read, for example, the first 11 posts on 1 discussion page of topic X, and then, when I returned two days later, I already saw 3 pages in it. BUT it's absolutely obvious that I cannot say right away - and WHERE was I the last time when I read this topic? After all, even the 11 posts I have read are only a part of the possible 15 that are displayed on every full discussion page in any topic. That is, I somehow have to remember that I read 11 posts only and precisely on 1 page only and somehow after all quickly jump to the 12th post on this 1 page? BUT HOW? I don't see that possibility right now. And it's wildly inconvenient.

I really hope that I just didn’t find the right option in the settings somewhere, and not that the engine of this forum simply does not provide such functionality.

I have compared the code of 4.54 and 5.00 now, and found the reason for the problem: Version 5.00 is the first to include a "MANIFEST" resource:

This tells Windows to use themed controls on Windows XP and newer.
The problem does not occur when I leave out the manifest resource and also remove the file TOTALCMD.EXE.MANIFEST.

So apparently it's a bug in the themed Windows listbox control. Therefore I will have to move this thread to the "will not be changed" forum because I cannot fix it myself.

Thanks it works.
I never worked with the duplicated files before, so all of this was unknown to me.
I have v10.51 and the size is not shown on the Listbox, and if I select the Size column the arrangement is gone.
Also I I need a different size scale here: KB o B, 'coz I need to see the differences; can you make this adjustments please?

I found something on the Help, that might help to customize the Listbox; is it possible? Are these Internal COmmands work in the .ini file, or how to use them?

In the updated version, the context menu under "new" lists numerous unnecessary and unfamiliar file extensions. You are answering only from the point of view of a developer or a person who very, very understands the inner kitchen of development..
It's not good or bad - it's just your decision. BUT! it is very highly specialized.
Go down to earth - where ordinary users of the final product live. Even here on this forum, I was not immediately able to find at least
some additional data on these three non-working commands. Do you really think that the majority of ordinary users will be more
meticulous in their search for the truth?
When does a simple user see text in the window that is completely incomprehensible and does not correspond to the actions performed
after calling the command in Total - of course, he/she considers this window as part of the Total code. Those: weird text = weird Total.

Therefore, I propose to make a REAL clarification - do not execute these commands in those versions of Windows in which they do not work.
And for some reason there are already an overwhelming majority of them! Those literally the number of versions of Windows where the code does not work is twice as many as the number where it works. And what is the point of this “much needed backward compatibility”?

The TC code is working fine. Its Windows that was changed -> complain to microsoft

Why should I suddenly complain? Why did they remove the insecure code? So in Total, you just had to DELETE the legacy code in the same way.
Total shouldn't even try to do something that doesn't already have code support from Microsoft.

On your screenshot we cannot see the entire value for the offset - could you please look in the [Timezone] section of your wcx_ftp.ini and tell us what the MLSD value is for that FTP-server - so we can test with the same value. Also look for any hidden characters (space or tab) behind the MLSD value.

In the copy dialog you can press F8 and then define a search for .+dark.+.css - select the RegEx box and save the search (name it for example darkcss). You can now find >darkcss in the "Only files of this type" dropdown list"

Instead of RegEx-filter:

use more * wildcard joker-sign to show where it should be variable:

You can also use the F8-button and define your pattern via a search, where you can also use plugins or combination of criteria.

By default, we already have a lot of third-party code running in Total, especially in unpacking.
No one is saying that the third-party tool of choice to solve this problem should be a proprietary and closed/packed some.exe file.
It is quite possible to replace all the actions hidden in the now non-working code of these three commands with scripts that can be
simply placed next to the main totalcmd.exe

The main thing is that the user should not be forced to SEARCH for a replacement for what seems to be declared as working code,
but in fact it has not been working for a long time. windows 7/8/10/11 - isn't it enough already?

direkt in Everything in Real-time angezeigt werden
in Total Commander mit Verwendung von Everything(!) fast in Real-time angezeigt werden
Menü "Konfigurieren" > Einstellungen... > Operation: Ermittle Platzbedarf von Unterverzeichnissen ...
'Everything' > wähle im Dropdownfeld (unterhalb) die gewünschte Option aus

Hier gibt es u.a. wichtige Einstellungshinweise (Punkt 13.): Suchabfragen: Total Commander <=> 'Everything'

Hier habe ich unter Punkt 2. einen Link zu OneDrive verlautbart welcher es ermöglicht
eine zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch aktuelle Beispieldatei "Everything.ini" für Everything 1.5 herunterzuladen.
Diese sollte eigene erforderliche Anpassungen wesentlich erleichtern.

Would you at least try with a offset of 0? I'm pretty certain it's that large offset value, and since the unit is in hours, it can offset the time by days or even years.

Years ago, when I first started using TC, I had a multi-rename that reversed the filename of MP3 files. Unfortunately, after several computer changes I've lost this and I can't, for the life of me, work out how it was done.

These files usually state the performers name first, followed by the track title, e.g. Carrie Underwood - Ever Ever After.mp3. What I needed to do was turn this into Ever Ever After - Carrie Underwood.mp3 .

Can someone please point me in the right direction to achieve this - I would be most grateful.

I don't have admin privileges on this PC, but no access denied messages were popping out.
All the folders I browse on this disk, are opening quietly without any issues.

But the position in the tree doesn't change accordingly (unlike the behaviour on all the other drive letters), and keeps staying on Desktop level.
The tree is updating every time I enter or go up a directory in the main TC window (the tree kinda flickers a bit), but stays unchanged on Desktop position (in the tree).

The disk's drive letter (C) itself is absent from the TC's tree. The same is in the Windows Explorer (no C: drive) - but in the WE, the tree refreshes accordingly to the browsing process in the main (Explorer's) window

Hallo, ich habe das Problem, dass ich einige sehr große Verzeichnisse hab... so 750GB groß. Die Anzeige der Verzeichnisgröße (wichtig z.B. fürs Sichern auf andere Datenträger) dauert gefühlt eine Viertelstunde... Geht das nicht schneller?

Is there any news on that? It's horribly annoying that I cannot get lister to start with UTF8 by default. And I don't like workarounds as with using buttons. I have exactly zero buttons in TC and do not want to have any.

For example lookup the TC-parameter %T

The offset has nothing to do with it. It doesn't show the time at all. Note that the time of the files is 01.01.1999. On the panels the time is correct.

Total Commander does not correctly show date/time of files on FTP server (on OpenMediaVault v0.5). Because of this, copying Timestamp in Synchronize Directories does not work (nothing happens).

I can run the command while I'm in another source path (like E:\backup files\) and it will copy c:\testfile.txt to "E:\backup files\" with the suffix, so I can have my backups created in another path than the original file.

red > that's pretty fine for real work, 'no close' is only for debuggin purpose, to see the possible error.
green > '%N' works for me, as I click on the file to 'select' it, and next on the button,...... but no problem, there are a few ways to achieve the goal.

pro tip:

you can adjust the code just slightly to work on one-or-many selected files the same time:

And when calling these non-working menu items, then it is worth displaying a MORE accurate description of the problem:
that in the current specific version of windows 7|8|10|11 - this functionality is completely inoperative and to resolve

do exist only in a "spherical vacuum". The user should do exactly as I indicated - go to the Internet and look for solutions
to the issues only there. Not in a Total itself.
But it would be entirely possible to choose at least one third-party solution and implement it by default in Total.
So that this'll be exactly the solution, at least to a first approximation. Instead of leaving the situation as it is now:
It simply displays a message text about some error/problem - somewhere in Windows or somewhere else....

I don't understand any of the script language, but I pasted the TOTALCMD#BAR#DATA on my TC-toolbar and it does the job!

Just FYI, I changed it a bit afterwards to:

red = I deleted that because I prefer the powershell window not to stay open after a copy.
green = I changed that because I'm not sure how to use "file under cursor" (%N) - if I put my cursor over the correct file first and then move my cursor to the toolbar button, the correct file is no longer under the cursor (?)

I'd like this with F7 and Alt+F7 and even Keypad + :
I'd use this with Irfanview: it can have a .ecw image format now and is relatively smaller than .WebP and .PNG and a few .jpg with low compression; so I compress them all those 3 to .ecw, to Save Storage Space.
I need TC to Find the smallest files with the same name, then invert the selection with Keypad * to delete them.

This is key since image formats with lossless and higher compression are getting to image apps like Irvanview, like AVIF. This would be useful on also video, documents, etc. It has lots of potential

For each Tab to have it's own History, so when changing back to a tab after having perused many other tabs and folders, and wanting to go back one or two levels, one doesn't have to go through all the other tab's histories until we get to the desired one... it would be a lot more practical and one would not lose the history of the other tabs in the process. As it is, I either spend longer (sometimes a lot longer) going back or I don't bother with it, which nullifies its purpose.

I also uses Lenovo, Win11 with TC and I never see such things. That's why it seems to me to be neither a Win11 problem nor a TC problem. More likely a driver problem or a resources problem caused by other processes?

these already THREE functions do not work at all. We can see the same error window after execution each of them.
2) To introduce the support of 3rd party utilities|tools|scripts|..?..| - which we can "to google" in the Internet, and which CAN do
the requested abilities... But obviously that we should do that - such abilities should be prebuilt inside the TC's code...

I see it differently, the Tc is a tool for professionals but at least for experienced users. And different names are common for this program: Tc totalcmd Totalcommander Total Commander... and it's definitely good if the user sees that this is okay and normal and it is up to the user how he uses the different names and that is even supported by Tc. Even inexperienced users and new users will not misunderstand the different terms but will appreciate them.

It is just artefakt. It is not possible to move this frame.
It is my only computer with Win11 (quite common Lenovo ThinkPad T14) so I am not able to say if it is Win11 problem or TC problem on Win11.

Thanks for pointing this. Even though I've been using TC since Win3.1, back in 1993 and my 1st license is dated 1996, it's not easy to keep track on minor improvements and additions and I confess not reading (at all) the changelogs for each version.. You could opt to not inform the translators of the change, because as you say, it doesn't really matter.

Hello again.
I'm sorry I don't know what the drop-down list that shows the available drives and mapped drives is called.
I also do not know if TC is supposed to do what I thought it would do.
I mapped a couple of network drives through Win Exp, they appear in Win Exp, but not in that T drop-down, unless I restart TC.
Is it supposed to refresh itself?
There is no "refresh-mapped-drives-list" button that I can create or kb shortcut, is there?
I'm working on TC 11.03 64 on Win 10 Pro x64.

You can assign hidden- and system- attribute to ANY specific file you want.
This is a feature of the FileSystem of your OperationSystem.

Also you may want to use the DOS ATTRIB command to change attr of specific files (or all from a folder): csulb.edu

You can also use TC menu "Files > Change Attributes...".

Follow petermad advice with "ignore list" to hide directly all specific extension (like *.txt), and that this way "portable", only inside of TC.

Greetings!

I am looking for a way to hide certain file extensions just as hidden/system files are hidden.

For example, some of the programs I use create peak files, which, while useful, never get to be run directly and clutter the view.
Setting, say, .pek and .pkf files as hidden would make them visible only when I turn hidden/system files on.

How can this be done?

vielen Dank für den Tip mit der cmd. Ich hatte nicht bedacht, dass die Kommandos ohne Shell ausgefïhrt werden.
Weiterhin muss man die Prozentzeichen schützen/verdoppeln, damit der Totalcommander sie nicht als Starter Syntax interpretiert. Die sollen ja ans exiftool.

Bei mir funktioniert nun

Parameter /k \exiftool.exe -L -d "%%CD%% - %%d.%%B %%Y" "-Directory Weiteres Schüzten der doppelten Anführungszeichen war nicht notwendig. Das war wohl ehr ein Seiteneffekt

Basically, there are two separate attributes that can make files/folders 'invisible' in Windows.
They are 'system' and 'hidden'.
So you might need to switch both of the Explorer options.

However, I would not recommend touching those Explorer options when you have such a tool as Total Commander in your hands (where you can switch the relevant Total Commander setting on the fly figuratively by a snap of your fingers*).
In Total Commander select the files/folders in question (affected by a virus) and go to the menu:
File - Change Attributes.
Then uncheck there the attributes in question:
'system' and 'hidden'

This way you are just making your files/folders visible in Explorer again [thus, you simply are preparing attributes changed by a virus, and there is no need to touch Explorer settings at all].

* Total Commander cm_SwitchHidSys command does the trick [switching 'system' and 'hidden' files/folders visibility] in one pass on the fly (for the Total Commander alone, of course, it does not affect Explorer settings), and the button is like this:

Hi,

I want to periodically create a backup of a specific file.
This Multi-Rename mask does exactly what I want ...

[N]_Backup [=tc.writedate.Y-M-D]_[=tc.writetime.h]h[=tc.writetime.m]-[=tc.writetime.s]

... except it doesn't create a copy. So for now I have to copy the file first, and then use the Rename mask.

I would like to have one operation that does both the copy and the naming part, but I don't know how. Is it possible?

In a perfect world, it would be one button on the toolbar that does everything in the background, without having to navigate to the folder, select the file, etc. ...
