Rectangular / block / column selection in Lister

Post by *ZoSTeR »

I'd appreciate a Lister option (maybe via Ctrl or Alt) to select text in column/block mode, or whatever to call it, like in several advanced text editors.

That would be really nice indeed.

It was meant as an option in the Lister. It wasn't quite clear in the text of the posting (corrected).

[REQ] Lister -> Column select

Post by *Hijacker »

Howdy,

Whoohoo. TC just became even better. I just love the 7.0 beta.

As I could see it is now option to enable cursor in Lister. This will come in handy. But here is my (not hard to implement) suggestion. Can you add the column/block select option. Like if you put cursor in middle of the large text and the let's say press CTRL+drag the mouse it will column select instead of line select the text. Here is how a copy paste example would look (copy paste from Editplus wich I now use for column selection):

Code: Select all

I think that with the excellent Syn plugin available there is no real need for that anymore, at least when files are not too fat:

Press Alt while selecting.

Of course, for big files it would be better it lister would support it itself. No idea how much people would need that. I am not against it of course.

I've tried Syn. Don't like it. Way too much option. I like it clean and simple like Lister has it, since if I want to edit files I use EditPlus. I'd like to hear what Mr. Ghisler has to say about this. Is it possible to add this feature? Alt+drag would be perfect combination...

Thank you.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Unfortunately a selection is stored as a text range (bytes x-y in the file), so it's currently not possible to select a rectangluar block of text.

Mr. Ghisler, maybe there is a way to count bytes per line amount, (when "wrap text" option is enabled), and then selected bytes indexes could be calculated as index of first selected byte + "bytes per line", int't it?
