Built-in SFTP

Nah, current open-source plugin is better. Well, not everything about it, you have to download it separately and it doesn't behave as integrated as built-in FTP. But it's really great that anyone has a chance to fix something in it, if it doesn't work as desired. And both given shortcomings could be fixed. The plugin could easily be bundled with TC. Regarding integration (so not being hidden in network neighborhood, connections saved with FTP ones, and creating "number drive" for open connections), it would be more work, but I'm sure something could be done.
