Allow to use an char as toolbar button's icon

Post by *dindog »

it's not easy to find a icon give you a visual link to the the feature of a button especially when you don't have Internet access. Is it possible to allow user use one or two character as the icon? That will help user tell which is which better than a random icon, even if the case if it accept complex character like Chinese(we got around 2 thousand different common single character and much more not so common)

As far as I know, it's not supported by Windows Explorer. You can either download some icon library or create icons on your own (even using IrfanView). Choose colors and transparency carefully if you want to use icons in both normal and dark mode.

create your own ICO with char for toolbar button's icon

Post by *Stefan2 »

You can create and use your own Icons or Icon-set.
Just search the net for free *.ico or *.inc or *.dll
( f.ex.: http://totalcmd.net/directory/iconpack.html)

Or create your own icons, for just letters it is quit easy:
- Open Notepad or Word(more Style,Fonts,Colors)
- Type an char, like A, or a word like ALL
- Use f.ex. IrfanView to select and copy an rectangle just around the char or word
Options > Capture Screenshot >>> (o) 5) Custom rectangle
File > Save as... >>> path >>> Typ: ICO

Or do everything in IrfanView:
- Image > Create New
- Edit > Show Paint dialog (Plugin/Add-on)
- use the Text Tool to write an char
- Close Text Tool
- Create an rectangle just around the char
- Edit > Crop selection
- File > Save as... >>> path >>> Typ: ICO
