DragnDrop from outside TC and thumbnailview

Post by *StickyNomad »

I just discovered a minor nuisance (see video):

If TC is in thumbnail view and the last row of thumbs is incomplete, the space right from the last shown thumb can't be used as a drop target. Dropping the file below that last row works fine.

I just checked and this issue was already present in TC 6.5x.

Works from panel

:) Hello !

• I watched your video. However, the remaining room of the incomplete row accepts a Drag & Drop to copy a *.LNK (to an image-file) from the opposite panel, that's quite strange !

• I confirm when the same LNK comes from another APP, I get too the slashed-circle cursor…

Hello too :)

Indeed, at least with the left mouse button, dragnDrop from within TC works fine everywhere in the thumbnail area.

But I've just noticed an additional issue:
when I use the _right_ mouse button to drag a file from one of TCs panels to a panel in thumbnail view, I get an access violation when I hover the area right to the last thumbnail:

Code: Select all

---------------------------
Total Commander
---------------------------
Access violation at address 00605E4E. Read of address 00000000.
Please report this error to the Author,
with a description of what you were doing when this error occured!
Continue execution?

 Ah… I use always the left mouse-button…

- Anyway, there is an issue, since you get an access violation.
I don't know if the error address belongs to the TC range, though…

Confirmed - I always run TC with NC mouse behaviour, so I hadn't noticed that one.

Unfortunately you cannot use this space to drop files to the background, because TC uses a listbox - in thumbnail view, the entire row is one file item!

It shouldn't cause any access violations, though. I will try to find out why you are getting them.

Hm, but if the last shown thumb and the empty space is one file item, why does it work when dropping a file onto the last thumb itself, but not in the adjacent empty area?

It's no big issue, but I think it would be nice to have all space in the thumb panel available as a drop target. Not for my own use (I rather seldomly use DnD) but for consistency reasons.

:) Good evening,
…Unfortunately you cannot use this space to drop files to the background, because TC uses a listbox - in thumbnail view, the entire row is one file item!…
• Like I said above already, this is not quite true always !
- You can D&D a file in that remaining space of the thumb nails row from the other panel in TC itself !

- I wonder to know what the difference is … :?:

Thanks for bringing that up again. This indeed indicates that it is possible to drop a file in that area, at least when using the Left mousebutton to drag between TC panels.
