Ctrl+B, edit file - multiple files appear

Post by *Flint »

1. Start TC with the following fresh INI file:

Code: Select all

[Configuration]
WatchDirs=3
2. Make exactly the following file/directory structure:
• C:\Temp\folder1\test\file.txt
• C:\Temp\folder2\test\file.txt
3. Go to the directory C:\Temp\ (so that you see folder1 and folder2 directories in the file panel).
4. Press Ctrl+B (two files named file.txt will be shown in the list).
5. Open any of these two files for editing with F4. A Notepad will be opened.
6. Make any change, save the file (Notepad may remain opened).
7. Switch back to TC: now there are 3 file.txt files in the list! After each editing/saving a new file.txt is added.

I can NOT confirm this.

I even tried with a blank ini-file (watchdirs set to 3), and both with c:\temp and with the temp dir from my temp environment setting. I also tried with several notepad replacements plus notepad itself. (Win XP SP2)

Did you perform all the steps absolutely the same as I wrote? The directory structure is especially important: with other set of files/folders (even similar to which I described) I could not reproduce the bug!

Sorry - I had omitted the intermediate "test" folder - that was because you write:
3. Go to the directory C:\Temp\ (so that you see folder1 and folder2 directories in the file panel).
wich confused me - you should write:

3. Go to the directory C:\Temp\ (so that you see the "test" directory in the file panel).

If I include the test folder I can now confirm your bug report :!:

 I also forgot to create the 'test' folders first. Now I could reproduce it, too.

Funny, but it is not what I meant. :) See the video, the "test" folder is a subfolder of "folder1" and "folder2", so it cannot be visible when you enter C:\Temp\...

Me being wrong again  I had made these folders:

• C:\Temp\test\folder1\file.txt
• C:\Temp\test\folder2\file.txt

(I don't know what's wrong with me today).

But nevertheless - I can also confirm the bug with those folders - so it seems that it happens as long at the files (file.txt) are placed more than on folder deep.

I can reproduce this on my mac using virtual PC. (And on my win box too.)

I have found that I have been using TC for so long I now need it on my mac.

OK, I could now reproduce it. The changed files must be at least TWO levels below the directory in which you press Ctrl+B. I will fix it in beta 4. Thanks for reporting it!

Hello,

Probably the same bug as described here:
http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=7576 ('Ein weiterer WatchDirs=3 Bug...', Thread date: 2005 Jun 01 !).
IIRC this bug is never fixed.

The easiest way to reproduce the bug, is, to go to the Folder 'Temporary Internet Files', press there Ctrl+B (with 'sorting by date' enabled), while loading - for example - a larger flv file embedded in a webpage.

Regards
