Default beep

Post by *pzolja2 »

I'm using TC7B3 and whenever I copy something to FTP or I open a connection I can hear the default Windows beep (in sounds and audio devices: program events - windows - default beep) for every file copied. Under the Total Commander section there are no sounds (for anything), but I can still hear this sound (very annoying after a few files). Any way to disable this or should I just assume it's a beta thing?

Thanks.

Because empty ?

:) Hello !

• Strange, because here I've the sounds configured in the TC section only

• Maybe could you try to set at least one sound {any one, for some rare event ;) } because it's possible
that the TC section be not considered at all when it's quite empty, so Win'ld apply its own sounds always.

• Just a thought…

 Kind regards,
Claude

I have tried enabeling every possibe sound (System and TC) and I can NOT get a sound after each file transferred. I can ONLY get a sound AFTER the TOTAL transfer, if I enable "Transfer complete".

What OS are you running?

One by one…

:) Hello Peter !

• Maybe pzolja2 sends files one by one, for some reasons ?

• Even in that case, he can also play with the delay before the sound in the configuration >> Misc.
- I ckecked : One can set up to 999 seconds, that's already pretty long, more than 16 minutes…

Thanks for the reply. I'm using Windows 2003, but this issue was first noticed by a friend who's using Windows XP. I had all my sounds off so I never noticed, but he likes to have that sound because chat programs use it.

I doesn't matter if I check the "only play for long operations" or if I change the duration to 999. It always plays the Windows - Default Beep sound. It completely ignores the Total Command section in Sounds and Audio Devices.

For example: I make Windows - Default Beep to be "windows xp information bar.wav" and Total Commander - Connected (FTP) to be "chimes.wav". When I connect to FTP I hear "windows xp information bar.wav". When I change an FTP folder or upload/download a file I hear the same sound. Even more, if I set Windows - Default Beep to (None) I won't hear anything...

Any ideas?

Try the trick ?

Post by *Clo »

:) Hi again !
It completely ignores the Total Command section in Sounds and Audio Devices.
• Did you try to set ONE sound in that TC section prior, in order that something be saved in the Registry for it,
like I said above ?

Yes, I've tried many combinations (no TC sounds, no Windows Default sounds, and combinations with these two) and it seems that it ignores any sounds I specify in the TC section and it always plays the Windows Default Beep.

If you could tell where to look in the registry I'd be happy to do it.

Thanks.

• I'd a look in the Registry, but I didn't find anything useful… :|

- Unfortunately, our beloved “Registry Master” is On Strike currently, but I guess that the Author or¦and other users more competetent than me at this will have the solution…

OK, here's what I have there (like I said in my previous post I just randomly put a sound for each item). So, with all these settings it still plays the Windows Default Bepp...

It must obviously be a sound event that is stored somewhere else - could you perhaps list your whole [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes section ?

Template line joke ?

Post by *Clo »

2petermad

:) Hello Peter !

• In the Config. Panel >> Sounds >> Sounds Tab there is a field “Sound Template” (or so, in French for me…)
which is empty here, and the sounds are OK with TC…
- The drop-down list contains "Win default", so maybe could it take precedence always if set in that field ?

Maybe, during the copying of the files TC just meets some error and by the default beep informs you about it? What does the FTP log tell?

Flint,

Well, there are no errors. Everything is working fine. However, your question made me try a few things and I managed to limit the problem further down. It seems that I get the default beep only when I connect to an FTP server via SSL (that's probably why it was never an issue before v7). If I connect to the same server but without SSL I never hear the beep, but as soon as I turn it on I hear it after connecting, when changing folders, copying... pretty much every time I do something :) It could be that Mr. Ghisler left it there for debugging... I hope he takes it out because it's very annoying.
