Shift+F5 and Shift+F6 does not work in virtual folders

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Shift+F5 and Shift+F6 does not work in virtual folders

Post by *petermad »

Shift+F5 and Shift+F6 (multiple files) does not work in virtual folders like \\Desktop, \\Documents or \\Music - folders where you can copy or move files to and delete files from (in contrast to \\Control Panel, \\Network or \\Printers).

Inline renaming (Shift+F6 when only current file selected/highlighted) does work in those virtual folders though.

I don't know if this is a bug or a missing feature, or just not feasible with virtual folders?

Microsoft use term "library" now, so libraries like \\Desktop, \\Documents or \\Music may really be handled in other way than "virtual (read only) folders" like \\Control Panel, \\Network or \\Printers.

Have you tested Shift+F6 with a single file for changing name only or for moving file as well? I mean press Shift+F6, then edit field from "file.ext" to "..\new_folder\file.ext" or something like that.

It seems to be the same issue as already explained here: https://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=343384#343384

Yes - as I wrote previously:

Yes - what? Renaming (from file.ext to file1.ext), moving or both? You have mentioned only the first action.

Shift+F5 is not supported in virtual folders.

Shift+F6 works when Windows reports that the object can be renamed, but only when NOTHING is selected.

Inline renaming of one file (where you edit the file name directly in the file panel) works in libraries. Moving files inside the same panel (selecting several files and pressing Shift+F6) does not work.

You have mentioned only the first action.
In my first post I write:
Shift+F6 (multiple files) does not work
That is the other action - and the one that is not supported.

Shift+F5 is not supported in virtual folders.
Any chance it could be supported, at least for one file?

But I'm talking about MOVING one file, when you edit the PATH to the file directly in the panel.
Can you see the difference now?
* A single file under cursor, not many selected files.
* Path to the file, not the filename itself.

You cannot move files within virtual folders and rename them, the Windows functions just don't support it. Also moving with releative names isn't possible. TC has to tell Windows the target object, it's not accessed via a path name. Therefore you can copy/move between two virtual folders with F5/F6, but not with Shift+F6 - that only supports renaming in place.

That's what I've suspected. Thank you for confirmation.
