Failure of letter navigation

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Failure of letter navigation

Post by *Woailizhi »

Synopsis: when navigating with a letter, changing the letter during navigation has no effect.
Example: I have create a directory with 10 files, named
a1.txt
a2.txt
a3.txt
b1.txt
b2.txt
b3.txt
c1.txt
c2.txt
d1.txt
e1.txt
Entering this directory and pressing the letter "a" four times goes first to a1, then to a2, a3 and loops back to a1. (Correct).
When pressing "b" now, the cursor stays on the a3 file (incorrect).
Remarks: I have set the "quick search" to "letters only".
Total Commander 10.0.0 1A
Windows 10 PRO, 64 bit.

With best regards,
Nuno.

How fast do you press "b" after the last "a"? If the "b" is pressed too soon, TC searches for files starting with "ab", which your directory doesn't contain, and therefore TC doesn't do anything. When you wait a bit (500ms?) or press ESC, TC will set the cursor on the first file starting with "b", which is b1.txt in your case.

This delay seems much, much bigger than in Win Explorer, and this is why I got caught
