FTPS: 'Create Socket failed', Win7 x64, TC 7.55rc2

Post by *HerbieH »

I often log on to a explicit SLL encrypted ftp-server with TC on a Win7 x64 computer.

I have no problems with TC7.55 beta, but after upgrading to rc2, TC makes an error: 'Create Socket failed'.

Here comes the the wierd part: When I click 'Edit..' then 'Ok' then 'Connect', I works fine! But every time i restart TC, I must do this again.

I have tested it thoroughly (really!), I am using the latest OpenSSL dll-files, but the error occurs with earlier OpenSSL versions also. PS: The x64 OpenSLL files doesn't work at all.

Maybe I must change some Win64 settings regarding Winsock?

Greetings from HerbieH.

No problem here, I'm connecting to an explicit SSL server multiple times every day. Some questions:

1. Which beta worked? The ftp login function wasn't changed at all between beta 3 and RC2.
2. Does ftps://ghisler.ch work for you (user anonymous)?

I got the same error on ftps://ghisler.ch .

Anyway, I use a lot of plugins and custom settings, and I had only tried to update my 'old' TC-install - so i finally tried a 'clean' TC7.55rc2 install.

You guessed it: I then got NO socket errors on SSL FTP servers.

I'm sorry, I didn't test that, but I will, of course, contact you, when I find out which plug-in, or custom setting, that caused the error.

PS: I'm not using a patched exe-file. :)

OK! I found the cause of the SSL ' 'Create Socket failed' error:

It occurs, when the settings in 'wincmd.ini' ' [Configuration] says:
x64Disableredirection=1

I have only tested it with TC7.55rc2.

Strange, that shouldn't happen - TC re-enables the redirection during the connect process, so Windows can load DLLs needed for the conenction process...

It might be some kind of timing problem, when TC enables/disables redirection. As mentioned, the error only occurs, when you have not edited the connection. Still strange...

Unfortunately you reported it after RC3 was done. I will try to fix it in the next version.
