How to associate *.url with Firefox

Post by *max6 »

Dear colleagues

I'm not able to associate a *.url file with Firefox in my Samsung S7, since the App Firefox is NOT available when I use e.g.

- the Internal associations / Interne Verknüpfung feature
- open with / öffnen mit
- open as / öffnen als

Why is the App Firefox missing there ?

How to associate *.url with Firefox ?

Thanks a lot for your kind support !

Maybe you can try to get launch command for Firefox app using button creation dialog:
in TC's button bar, open "Add/Edit button" dialog by pressing "+" button on button bar, set Function type to "View file with app" - this way you can see most of apps installed on device which can open files, and pick Firefox there.

If you also set button's Parameters field to file:%P%N or file:%C, and then mark *.url file in panel of TC4A, button will pass the .url file to Firefox so you can see whether Firefox opens them in a way that you expect.

If it works from button, you can copy a command from your button's Command field, and paste it in Internal Associations' dialog Command: field. Note that in Internal Associations, before the command, there should also be the & or * sign, which defines whether the file is passed to associated app using file: or content: url.

To DrShark

Tks a lot for your swift reply.

Unfortunately FireFox App does not only NOT show up in

- the Internal associations / Interne Verknüpfung feature
- open with / öffnen mit
- open as / öffnen als

but also not when I follow your instructions with adding a new button with "View file with app". No FireFox shows up after pressing ">>" :-(

Why is the App Firefox missing there ? I installed (and updated) FireFox regularly via Play Store.

Tks a lot for your swift reply too.

If possible I don't want to install an additional app for this. (I noticed also the last update of the app on the 4.5.2017)

stuntzurl version 1.3 from 17.8.2015 is working like a charm on all my Androids (the latest one is Pie), and it is only 23,1 KB.
App is not showing in launcher, it doesn't have interface, not working anything until you click on URL file in Total Commander - and then it call Firefox, other browser, YT app... and forward the URL address to them correctly.

I don't know a different solution for URL files.
I barely find a solution, that works well, to open URL files in Chrome on Windows (some Tampermonkey script), directly from TotalCmd with his Internal associations, and without changing anything in Windows registry etc (for portable use of TC and Chrome).
