[TC 8.01 x32] Lost cursor in Compare by content

Post by *jvh »

1. Select two similar files and run Compare by Content...;
2. Switch Edit mode and minimize Compare contents window;
3. In TC view any file with Lister (F3);
4. Maximize Compare contents window ... and editing cursor is lost.

Tested on Win 7 64bit (with clean ini).
No problem with TC 8.01 x64.

NOT confirmed. I tried with cursor on and off in Lister.

Maybe a plugin problem? Can you try step 3 with Alt+Shift+F3? This will bypass all plugins.

Tested again with clean ini (also with Alt+Shift+F3) and the error is repeatable here. Text cursor (I mean blinking "I") is lost in Compare contents window, strangely only in panel where it was before - when you switch to opposite panel it works as expected.

I can reproduce it with clean ini file too. Note that you have to minimize the CbC window before you open the Lister Window - otherwise it won't happen.

Sorry, still can't reproduce. I just did the following steps:
1. Launch TC with a non-existing ini, e.g.
c:\totalcmd\totalcmd64.exe /i=c:\totalcmd\new.ini
2. Go to a folder with 2 text files
3. Select them
4. Choose files - compare by content
5. Pressed F2 to switch to edit mode
6. Click on minimize to minimize the compare tool
7. Clicked on one of the two files
8. Pressed F3
9. Clicked on the compare tool in the task bar to restore it -> cursor already visible
10. Clicked on "Maximize" button in the title bar

Result: Compare is restored, and the cursor is blinking as it should.

What am I doing wrong?

1. Launch TC with a non-existing ini, e.g.
c:\totalcmd\totalcmd.exe /i=c:\totalcmd\new.ini - This bug is in 32-bit version of TC only.
2. OK
3. OK
4. OK
5. Please click on button "Edit mode" - F2 doesn't work here and also not documented as shortcut for edit mode. (Maybe your own shorcut?)
6. OK
7. OK (but you can choose any file)
8. OK
9. Clicked on the compare tool in the task bar to restore it -> cursor is lost

Edit:
Not bad idea to add F2 shortcut for edit mode, please consider it.

F2 doesn't work here either - 32bit and 64bit.

Sorry, I meant F6.

And yes, I misunderstood your report, I thought that it was a 64-bit only problem. I can reproduce it with the 32-bit version. It seems that Windows cannot show the caret because Lister is claiming it for itself. It seems to work when you turn if off in Lister with F6 BEFORE opening the compare tool.

Agree.
It seems that Windows cannot show the caret because Lister is claiming it for itself.
Please note that Lister window can be closed immediately after F3 (point 8) and after restoring Compare by content window the caret isn't shown too.

Yes, because Lister "stole" it from the compare tool. I will have to re-create it when restoring the compare tool.
