[TC8.01x32, wine-1.5.5] TC crashes Invalid floating point

Post by *Hansl »

Sometimes (less than once in a week) my TC8.01x32 causes a popup

Application Error
Exception EInvalidOp in module TOTALCMD.EXE at 6FDF0796.
Invalid floating point operation.

all of its own while I'm working with other apps and TC hasn't even got the focus (but the contents of its displayed directories may have changed). If I wait, more such popups appear. Clicking OK closes TC.

Running current Linux Mint Debian Edition LMDE with Mate and wine 1.5.5
(LMDE is not to be confused with the Ubuntu-based Mint flavours like Katya etc. In contrast to those LMDE repositories offer only a very old Wine so I compiled Wine from sources.)

Hello, Hans.

I can confirm that sporadically such "Invalid floating point" crashes do occur on Debian based Linux.

My environment:
Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit with Unity desktop
Wine 1.4
Total Commander 8.01 32-bit

This problem started to occur pretty recently. So I tend to assume it may have been the side effect of a recent Ubuntu software update.

Now let us find out which recent software updates
+ Linux Mint Debian Edition
+ Ubuntu 12.04
had in common. Those might be the culprits.

Cheers,
Karl

This address is unfortunately in a system dll and not in TC. Do you get a stack trace? If yes, can you post the first few addresses lying between
400000 and 700000, please?

Sorry -- I get only the above mentioned popup
Application Error
Exception EInvalidOp in module TOTALCMD.EXE at 6FDF0796.
Invalid floating point operation.
nothing else...

On the other hand: I have a second installation on my netbook, running the same latest LMDE but wine-1.0.1 and still TC7.56a. With that I never noticed such a crash. Hm.

Hello, Christian. Hello, Hans.

As stated it happens here only sporadically. And just to make things more interesting it has not happened since I confirmed that the problem existed in this thread.
So at the moment, I have got no RAM addresses to post. Sorry. Yet, I'll keep an eye on it.
By the way. I am tempted to swear it has never happened on Lucid Lynx (Ubuntu 10.04), only on Pangolin (Ubuntu 12.04). Means I doubt the culprit is T.C. 8.01, because it is used on both Lucid and Pangolin.

Cheers,
Karl
