hang when try to delete any file in Windows 8 x64

Post by *dindog »

It maybe about the recent system update or something, anyway, every deleting became painfully slow. Anyone has meet similar problem?

Delete file in explorer is normal: instantly.

A slow deletion may have various reasons.
- Check your recycle bin: If it is full, empty it.
- Check your wincmd.ini: If there is an entry "VistaDelete=0": Remove the entry or set "VistaDelete=1".
It is valid for Win7 and Win8 too.

I don't know, if VistaDelete is relevant here. According to the screenshot, dindog is using Win95Delete=1, which should bypass TC's internals and use Explorer to delete those files. Which brings us back to the question, why it should be slower when started from TC.
Note: This issue has not happened to me yet.

Yes, I knew there are different reasons will lead to problem like that. First thing come up in my mind is it a TC problem or not. Now I've notice some other program hangs too while under operation related to Explorer like open dir.

It was totally fine at least a week ago, I will try to uninstall the recent windows updates to track down whether updates have relevance to the problem or not...

dindog,
Try and check with a new ini.
totalcmd.exe /i=freshtc.ini

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Unfortunately, the problem remains.

And I also have new discovery.
1. Not only delete, but also copy operation will make my PC hanging.
2. If I drag and drop file from TC to explorer, vice versa, or even to another TC instance, no hanging at all, copy and delete will start instantly.

I doubt some of my tweak screw off my Windows' feature, I honest don't want to resort to re-install Windows 8. I appreciate any suggestion. :D

PS, when I said "hang", I mean TC is out of response, but system CPU usage and harddisk write & read reading are normal.

It could be a new shell extension which was recently installed by another program. Try searching for ShellExView here in the forum for instructions.
