Wrong MD5 File Name

Post by *brahman »

A folder has files

system.ext4.tar.a
system.ext4.tar

system.ext4.tar.a has data in it, system.ext4.tar has no data (file size 0).

I make MD5 for system.ext4.tar.a with "Make CRC".

The resulting file is called "system.ext4.tar.md5" and contains the following line:

Code: Select all

530744b0825aa9ab3f6afb2679853927 *system.ext4.tar.a
Should the file name not be system.ext4.tar.a.md5?

No

If you select a single file only, the file extension is normally replaced by "md5".
If you still want the extension to be part of the name, just check option "Create separate checksum files for each file" and enter "*.*.md5" as file mask.
Note the 2 asterisks!

Thanks.

Am I the only one who thinks that this is a confusing default behaviour, and that it would be better if md5 would be appended to the complete filename and extension?

As you are not the first one stumbling on it would be better to have a reliable default bahaviour.
