Move doesnt copy but still deletes

Post by *Randall »

Sometimes when I use the mouse to Move on a network drive, the copy part generates an error and does not complete. Not a fatal problem but TC (or windows) goes ahead and deletes the original file. (BIG PROBLEM)

Does TC report the error? It sounds like Windows reports "copy complete" to TC, but later you get a warning from the Windows write cache that the data couldn't be saved. TC cannot know that copying failed in this case.

It's better to just copy the files, and delete them only once you are 100% sure that they have been completely written.

Actually it shows as a TC error but it reads like its a lower level than that, it sounds like a DOS error - "File cannot be written, please remove write protection and try again". - or words to that effect. But there is no write protection and only Archive attributes set. The directory it is moving to is a sub directory in the current directory so the file isn't really moving, the directory entry is the one that's moving.

And I have fallen back to the Copy-Check Existence-Delete method
