F1 - Help - Search for: save position wrote: Configuration - Save Position
With this menu option the current position and size of Total Commander is saved.
This will also save the current tabstops in the file windows. The position is saved separately for each screen resolution.
Example:
wincmd.ini - section [1920x1200 (8x16)]

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺
What are your settings here?

wincmd.ini - section [Configuration]
InstallDir= :?:
⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺
Menu "Help" > About Total Commander...

Total Commander Version 11.55RC7 64 bit (2025-06-18)

but it doesn't work.
Sure it does - maybe you don't have write priviliges to your wincmd.ini file.

Where is the save position in wincmd.ini?
It is saved for each screen resolution of your screen as for example:

Code: Select all

[1920x1080 (8x16)]
maximized=  0=normal, 1=maximal size
x=  x-position of Total Commander
y=  y-position
dx=  Width
dy=  Height
or if you have set ResolutionSpecific=0 in your wincmd.ini the in the section: [AllResolutions]

So by Position you actually meant folder Locations and not window position. By default the currently shown folders are saved when closing TC and opened again when TC is started again.

This can be disabled in Configuration -> Options -> Operation -> Save on exit -> Directories.
The currently shown folders can then be saved manually via Configuration -> Save Settings.

Yes, I was referring to the folders opened when TC starts.
I'll keep your advice in mind.
I have write rights to wincmd.ini, as I renamed it to tinker with the settings.

It was easier

Settings, Options, Operation

Uncheck Save directories and Panels on exit
