im using version 5.51 and would like to know if its possible to make a button bar button that opens a folder only on a specified side (left or right)

i tried silly guesses like /L cd c:\foldername\ and no they didnt work :P

so yeah, is there any command??

Well, I don't think it's possible.
You must have the destination panel active and then click the button.
But I think that Directory Hotlist (Ctrl-D) is a better solution do quickly change directories (and you don't have to use a mouse :-) )

Yes, it is possible. You have two options:
1. Assign command totalcmd.exe with /o options.
2. If you use buttonbar via TCMenu or TCtoolbar program you can assign regular CD command.

True... I've never used totalcmd.exe with options :-(. I've thought it is used only at startup of TC

If about TCMenu - as I know it only changes directories in left panel.
