Possble to use number sequence when renaming entries in file's DECRIPT.ION

Post by *spikey »

I still run an old version of the Acdsee image viewer which uses DESCRIPT.ION to add comments to JPG files.

Total Commander is very flexible at renaming files but can TC rename a series of file descriptions using an automatic number increment in the description?

Here is an example. The layout only allows one space after the file name but I hope you can get the idea.
FILE001.JPG house in sunshine 01 taken 1st January 2000
FILE002.JPG house in sunshine 02 taken 1st January 2000
FILE003.JPG house in sunshine 03 taken 1st January 2000

If your filename scheme is like in your example you can use the Change Attributes function with plugins:

1. Mark the files to have their comments changed.
2. In the Menu choose "Files" -> "Change Attributes"
3. Check the "Change plugin attributes"
4. Click the button "More attributes" and chose "tc" for Plugin and "comment" for Property (probably already chosen)
5. in the Value field write: house in sunshine [=tc.name:6-7] taken 1st January 2000
6. Click "OK"

See: http://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/comment_number_increment.png

EDIT:
In stead of [=tc.name:6-7] you can use [=tc.name:-2-] which will insert the last 2 characters if the file name - then the file names can have different length.

Note - you cannot just edit an existing file comment with this method.
