[Solved by windows restart] cm_ListMulti (F3 or Shift+F3) don't work in TC9.21a

Post by *diopter »

cm_ListInternalMulti don't work too.
F3 / Shift+F3 (whatever is configured as multi) don't work too.

Only the first selected file is opened.

I have checked this on a fresh installed TC9.21a 32bit in Win7 64-bit without any changes.

Not confirmed
F3 and cm_ListInternalMulti are working, the key N goes to the next file in the list.

May be you have set in the config for F3 "Internal Viewer with file under cursor"

<ignorant request for explanation, please>
Sorry to disturb. But what is the difference between cm_List and cm_ListMulti?
I have not found out from the very brief explanations in Totalcmd.inc and History.txt.
If I mark 3 files in a folder and execute cm_list, the first file will be displayed. By pressing N or P I can cycle through the marked files forward or backward and lister will display them. The same happens if I execute cm_listmulti.
What is the designed difference in behaviour between cm_list and cm_listmulti?

Hello, Tuska.

I think I mentioned that these one-liners do not explain much to me.
Had mentioned totalcmd.inc and history.txt. CommandBrowser is merely a third source for the same one-liners. And I guess CommandBrowser really gets its information from totalcmd.inc.
As the result is exactly identical here, no matter whether I use cm_list on several selected files or whether I use cm_listmulti instead.
Is this the expected behaviour? They do exactly the same?

P.S.: I used *.png files and *.mp3 files in order to test what cm_list and cm_listmulti do.

Hello karlchen,

It depends on what you look at with the Lister.

If you use a TC_clean.ini and call multiple .txt files and a .pdf file or a .msg file in the Lister,
then there is only a sign-salad in the .pdf or .msg file. In these cases you need a plugin.

This is probably the reason for the command: cm_ListMulti - at least that's how I would interpret it.
There is also a difference when you enter the respective command in the TC command line (single/multiple markings).

Karl

Hi, guys.

I am a bit confused still to put it mildly.
  • diopter complains that on T.C. 9.21a neither cm_ListMulti, nor List_InternalMulti work.
    He neither explains what he expects to happen, nor what happens instead.
  • Several users confirm that cm_ListMulti and List_InternalMulti work on their systems, again without explaining what the correct behaviour is which they see.
How in this situation can we determine what the problem, which diopter perceives with cm_ListMulti and cm_ListInternalMulti, really is?
How can we tell apart incorrect expectations on diopter's side on the one hand from incorrect behaviour of cm_ListMulti and cm_ListInternalMulti on the other hand, as long as we do not know
+ what diopter expects to happen
+ what should really happen?

Regards,
Karl

Oh great, the unexplained cm_ListMulti mystery bug has been resolved by a trivial system reboot. [1] Time to say goodbye to this thread which raises questions and answers none.

It is a matter of whether you can cycle through several selected files in Lister by pressing N or P (backwards). It is configurable under "Configuration" -> "Edit/View" whether you have to press Shift+F3 or just F3 to be able to cycle through the files - This setting applies to the command cm_List.

The alternative commands forces one or the other behaviour:
cm_ListOnly=2934;Lister with plugins/multimedia, single file
cm_ListMulti=2935;Lister with plugins/multimedia, selected

Or without the use of plugins:
cm_ListInternalOnly=1006;Lister without plugins/multimedia, single file
cm_ListInternalMulti=2933;Lister without plugins/multimedia, selected

cm_ListInternalOnly can be invoked by pressing Alt+Shift+F3

Multi in the command names stands for Multiple files - not for Multimedia.

Hi, petermad.

Now I see. :D - The difference is between
+ the cm-commands having the suffix "Only" (only single file, no cylcing through files) vs
+ the cm-commands having the suffix "Multi" (cycle through multiple selected files)

I can confirm that
+ the cm-commands with the suffix "Only" do not permit cycling through several selected files.
+ the cm-commands with the suffix "Multi" all permit cycling through several selected files.

This is true on Total Commander 9.21a 64-bit on Windows 7 SP1 64-bit here.
I bet it will work on the Windows-less operating systems as well (Ubuntu and Linux Mint).

Thanks for clearing this up, petermad.
Best regards,
Karl

Have tested with TC 9.21a 32bit and 64bit under Windows 7 x64:

Viewing of muliple files works as usual with cm_List (when configured for it) and with cm_ListMulti and cm_ListInternalMulti

Enhance internal associations context menu to button bar menu functionality

Post by *diopter »

My problem has been solved by a Windows restart (sorry),
but I have some suggestions to enhance TC:

Enhance internal associations context menu to button bar menu functionality:
If an entry "Filter1.bar=<buttonbarname>" exists, the defined button bar should be displayed as a menu.
Advantages:
  • Should be easy to implement (Entire functionality already exists in buttonbars)
  • No compatibility issues with previous implementation
  • Would at least partially fulfill several previous requests:
    - Icons in the internal context menu
    - Sub menus in the internal context menu
    - Internal commands in the internal context menu
    - Integration of the definition for "all files" into the definition for other types (e.g. TXT.bar contains button for FILES.bar as sub menu)
[Associations]
Filter1=*.txt
Filter1.bar=TXT.bar
Filter2=*.epub
Filter2.icon=%$PROGRAMW6432%\Calibre2\ebook-viewer.exe
Filter2_Show with Sumatra&PDF=%COMMANDER_PATH%\Plugins\wcx\slister\x64\SumatraPDFx64.exe "%1"
Filter2_Show with Calibre-Viewer &#=""%$PROGRAMW6432%\Calibre2\ebook-viewer.exe" "%1""
Filter2_Edit with Ca&libre EBook-Editor=""%$PROGRAMW6432%\Calibre2\ebook-edit.exe" "%1""
PS:
The integration of the internal context menu into the Windows context menu should be can switched off (becomes too long)
Nice to have:
Internal command to show button bar as context menu at mouse cursor position
Internal command to show user start menu as context menu at mouse cursor position

Hi, diopter.

The "bug report", which has turned out to be no bug at all, has been resolved.
The feature request is a totally different story and should not be appended to the unrelated solved thread about a different topic. The feature request deserves a separate dedicated thread.
My point of view.

Best regards,
Karl
