Sorry, no way. There were some similar topics BTW, e.g. this one.

It have looked weird for me for some time, but now I've got used to it and don't bother. Though it is still inconsistent (e.g. path bars have no borders with tabs but do have borders when no tabs).

It's a pity. Will have to get used to it.

I got many complaints that TC looks very old-fashioned with these double lines. I didn't get any similar complaints since I changed it, but (far less) complains from users who don't like the single lines.

Both screenshots in this example look similarly old-fashioned, mainly due to the bolded font that looks like System from Win3.11 or DOS console. More old fashion appears when the user discovers the Norton keyboard shortcuts, with no option for Windows F2/F3/etc.

Some Windows 7 "Aero" user pointed out that the menu bar element itself had a highlight on the bottom edge, and the additional group separator duplicated it.

I'm staying on TC 8.52, as it seems that the new version hasn't yet added any new functions that I personally find essential. Of course it is not due to a single one visual element, but because I recognize that new versions will be adapted for modern Windows in various ways, and work around issues that are only relevant on Win10.

So do you have a better idea how to draw these lines?

Not all menus have that, and there is no function to check it.

That is not a problem, add to wincmd.ini something like this:

Code: Select all

[Shortcuts]
F2=cm_RenameOnly
And press F2 to rename as in Explorer.

Fashion matters most during early impressions. Once I have worked through advanced settings and added the keyboard shortcuts one by one, I can almost see through design. TC is something I put onto new computers first to get access to FTP and load everything else, and then I am reminded that I can't rename, search or refresh with F2-F5.

A 3D line could be drawn if Windows is not themed with DWM, and could be assumed to have a "modern" look not compatible with 3D. But I recall the author saying in the other thread that having two line widths required time consuming tuning. I can't argue with that fact.

The way a fresh installation of TC looks to a new user is still quite old fashioned and change of the group separators hasn't improved it. It could use the standard system font by default for file listings on Win2k3/XP, for consistency and information density.
