Of course, there is. Every Windows system up to and including Win10 has a Control Panel, and although the item Software is called Programs and Features since Win8 it's almost the same as Software on XP.
What's the version I need? Don't know what you're referring to.
You've read my post, didn't you? Again, you need to download and install Visual C++ 2013 Runtimes (x86) to be able to use the Oracle Viewers, and that's exactly what I wrote, multiple times. Just for the record: uLister requires Oracle Viewers, and the Oracle Viewers require Visual C++ 2013 Runtimes. So to be able to use uLister, you need all three things!

Under Window XP "Programs and Features" is called "Add or Remove Programs"

2Dalai
It is since Windows Vista that it has been called "Programs and Features"

Oops, you're right. I concluded from the German Windows localization to the English one. :oops:

Yes, and no. In a German Windows 7 it's called "Programs and Functions", but in a German Win8.1 it's called "Programs and Features". You may be right for other localizations.

FYI, I spent years making a living as a computer consultant. Nowadays my health has me at home on disability. It would be helpful, Dalai, if you could speak to me a little bit more gently. I know my Control Panel inside and out, and there has never ever been anything under it called "Software." Out of respect, you should believe me.

Also, pardon me if I ask you something you've already written, but it may have simply been beyond me the first time. If you get frustrated, then step back and let someone else answer. The truth is, you never know what's going on behind the scenes of a stranger online. (With me, my health and concentration sometimes get in the way.)

Now, I have gone in to Add and Remove Programs and found four listings:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable -x86 9.0.21022
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable -x86 9.0.30729.17
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable -x86 9.0.30729.6161
Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable (x86) - 14.14.26405

It would be nice if someone with patience could answer this: Is it possible for uLister to work on an XP machine?

Thank you!

First, I'm sorry. Secondly, I was convinced what I said was right. Thirdly, I can't possibly know your level of experience with computers. So, combine these two facts and add a little bit of temper and/or frustration and you get my answer above ;).

Maybe. The thing is that only a few people use XP nowadays, and even fewer use the Oracle Viewers on them. If you can provide the Oracle Viewers somehow, I can test it. Or you can just install the VC++ 2013 Runtimes and test it yourself. Just to be clear: A newer major VC++ Runtime doesn't supersede an older one (exception: 2017 supersedes/replaces 2015). Since you only have 2008 and 2017 you're missing 2013.

Oracle Viewers
Your link gives an
Nothing found
The owner either removed the files or restricted access, or there's a typo in the link.

But I would suggest not to re-distribute Oracle files as this violates their license.
Its no problem to register as a user with Oracle to get the files.
They don't spam the e-mail address used for it.

If I would register for every tiny thing I want to test I would probably have thousands of accounts. Spam is only one of my concerns. Data leaks is another. And there are more, of course. My rule is to register for something only if I frequently use it, or at least more than once.

Thanks, but I get the same message as Horst posted.

Sorry, I have forgotten to share files, but as stated by Horst.Epp I shouldn't have done that ....

Dalai, that was a very nice message. Thank you! You're forgiven. ;-)

So now we're getting somewhere! I don't know what the VC++ 2013 Runtimes are, but if you point me in the right direction, I'm happy to install them and then report back what happens. :-)

(Sorry if you already provided a link somewhere. This thread has gotten very long and involved!)

Thanks, Ovg! They give me three choices:
vcredist_arm.exe
vcredist_x64.exe
vcredist_x86.exe

Which do I want?

Omg, it works.

Now it's not perfect (viewing xls files gives extra borders and gridlines), and there is a bit more of a delay, but it works!

So now we finally know. Thanks to the brains that contributed to this thread, you can indeed use uLister on an XP machine. It's a bit slower, but it can be done.

THANKS TO EVERYONE!
