Post by *lovelymangold »

BUG:
Right mouse button will cause the software to automatically exit.

Can you fix it?
skype:mrsf_jean.luc

advice:
1:Could ghisler pls add an auto queue list save while u copying/moving files as whenever the slightest error happens the queue list gets cleared.
2:a checkbox that says "Ignore all warnings" .

There is no such general bug to fix.
The right mouse button is used many times a day for context menu.
So please describe on which item do you use the right mouse button ?
Also your post does not show any info about version of OS, TC and bitness.
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3527)
TC 11.03 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1372a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.3, Listary Pro 6.3.0.73
QAP 11.6.3.2 x64

When the path of the folder is too long (maybe: or contain some special character) , the program will automatically exit when you press and hold the right button for a few seconds to make it pop up.

os: win10 ent
total commander: total commander 921a x64 version (i think the old version is ok, but the new version has this but)

No problem here with w10 pro and TC9.21a(x64) and path length >400 characters.
I suggest to follow the advice and disable context menu shell extension
  • Get the free tool ShellExView and start it with administrative rights.
  • Disable all shell extensions of type "Context Menu" one by one. You can hide/keep those belonging to Windows, they are usually OK.
  • Continue until Total Commander stops crashing.
If this won't help (I doubt) and/or you need some of the disabled context menu entries you can use the tool again to re-enable what you need.
There is nothing what TC can do if a badly written shell extension decides to crash the process.
BTW: Does it work in Explorer?

Regards
Holger

May be you can use the try catch code, if the menu have some problem, the application could give us some msg, please don't crash.

advice:
the user can provide more information how this bug can be reproduced by the program author.
- OS version(bitness) ->(W10 ent x64)
- TC version(bitness) ->(TC9.21a x64)
- what is the TC version which works okay?
- does it work with 32 bit TC?
- does it work in explorer.exe?
- context menu for a single file or multiple files?
- difference if the context menu is opened with mouse or with keyboard?
- sample path including file type.
- does it work if the context menu is opened at a copy of the file placed into a path with less than 255 characters?
- does disabling context menu shell extensions help to prevent the bug?
- if yes: what is the name of the shell extension causing the bug?
- does "Control Panel\System and Security\Security and Maintenance\Reliability Monitor" shows an entry for the tc-crash?
- technical details of this entry?
