Design Language for 9.5betas' Options Display Directories [] or \

Post by *Phred »

Author Ghisler is normally meticulous in his choice of visual controls throughout TC, but I notice in the new setting for display of [ ] around or an appended \ for directories (folders?) I see that the controls for the two alternative choices are tick-boxes (check(off)-boxes in the USA).
When you tick one, and the other one is already ticked, the other one becomes unticked.

Hasn't the standard design language for the past few decades (since transistor radios or tape recorders or Walkmans?) been 'radio buttons' for one-among-many 'exclusive or' controls?
One choice appears as a dot in a circle, turning off all other choices, as we do when pressing buttons on radios.

Currently, to me, the presence of two tick-boxes implies that you can have both.

Circular buttons rather than tick-boxes for [ ] or \ for directory display - None or [ ] or \.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

The problem is that you need to be able to uncheck BOTH options. This isn't possible with radio buttons. I'm also considering to allow both enabled, but it looks strange.

Please do - if you put a space between "\" and "]" I think it looks OK - https://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/slashbrace.png

They're all mutually exclusive, aren't they, Roman?

While we're in a 'language' topic, Peter -
( ) - parenthesis, parentheses
[ ] - bracket, brackets
{ } - brace, braces.
..just in case :)
/ - virgule
