Recover password saved in ftp account?

Post by *kongen »

Hi

1. I have some FTP accounts set up in my Total Commander, but now i have forgotten the password, but it is of course still saved in the Total Commander. Is there any way i can recover this, as i am about to change computers.

2. Is there also some way to copy the settings to the new computer, maybe including the ftp accounts? (I would still like to get to know the password again though) :-)

Hi,

Welcome on board.

Regarding your questions:
You just have to copy the install dir of TC + the INI files. To find out where these INI files are located, go to menu "Help->About". At the bottom of the about window you'll find the paths (and names) of the currently used INI files.

IMHO recovering the passwords is not possible since they are encrypted. But this should not be necessary in this case since you can just copy the INI files.

Hello,
1. FTP Password Ripper is for you (direct link from ClubTotal)
2. You just need to copy over your WCX_FTP.INI file
Hope this helps!

@kongen: Look at Help -> About TC -> Ini-Files
These are the files you have to copy for keeping your settings...

Regarding the FTP-PW-Problem:
There are two programs for that
1st one ist as szlori pointed out FTP Password Ripper
and the 2nd one is called Windows (Total) Commander FTP Crack (i think it was coded by Max?) (http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/wcftpcrack.html).
The first one shows all pws at once and in the second one
you have to copy the wanted encoded pw and after pressing a button its decoded...

>IMHO recovering the passwords is not possible since they are encrypted.
everything that is encrypted can be decrypted (even if it takes some time) ;p

Might be old topic, but the problem persists. I have tried to run some offline decoders but I received warnings from anti-virus software and I didn't want to take the risk. I found someone at the reverse engineering forums (tuts4you) posted this online tool:

https:// www pelock com/ products/ total-commander-ftp-password-recovery

I could recover some old passwords with it. I hope it helps and sorry for digging out an old topic.
