Search > "Find duplicate files": missing separators after "Feed to listbox"

Post by *fdfd »

TC version: 9.12 32bit
OS: Windows 10 EE 2015 long services

Symptom:
my step:
- selected "Search archives(all except for UC2)"
- to "Advanced", selected "Find duplicate files"
- selected "same size" and "same contents"
- the result has separators
- Feed to listbox
- the result has no separators

Cause:
I found some issue in forum
- https://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=39663
- https://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=47274

And in my issue, i am don't sort result
and I check my operator, if I don't selected "Search archives(all except for UC2)", the result is normal.
But I don't know the reason.

Why search result has separators and to "Feed to listbox" has no separators ?
Thank you very much.

Do you use view modes? It's possible that a view mode change occurs when you use "Feed to listbox", which causes the list to be sorted differently.
When you sort a search result, the separators from duplicate file finder are lost because the files are probably not in the same order afterwards.

This was fixed in Total Commander 9.20:
03.07.18 Fixed: Do not apply sort order from automatic view mode switch when using Search - Advanced - Find duplicate files - Feed to listbox, and the view mode defined a custom columns view sorted by a custom column (32/64)
02.07.18 Fixed: Do not apply sort order from automatic view mode switch when using Search - Advanced - Find duplicate files - Feed to listbox, and the view mode defined a custom columns view (32/64)

You are still using TC 9.12.

dear ghisler:

i am used TC9.5 try again. problem still exists.

i find the reason , when selected "Search archives(all except for UC2)" and search duplicate files, the "Feed to listbox" has no separators.
i don't use view modes, don't sort any thing , nothing configure.
the reason is "Search archives(all except for UC2)", you can try it still reproduce the problem.

for example for directory tree

test/
├── a.txt
├── b.txt
└── file.zip

and a.txt b.txt in file.zip

a.txt same as b.txt, The two files are the same. and selected "Search archives(all except for UC2)" and search duplicate files, and then "Feed to listbox"。

i find the reason , when selected "Search archives(all except for UC2)" and search duplicate files, the "Feed to listbox" has no separators.
That's because you cannot feed files found in archives to listbox, because TC cannot apply any functions on a mix of regular files and files in archives. Therefore archives are inserted instead of the files in them, so the duplicate result is lost.

dear ghisler:

1. However, the search results page has separators, as it may be to the "Feed to listbox"?
2. The compressed file can be "Treat archives like directories", why not for on a mix of regular files and files in archives?
3. This operation will do some optimization it?

Thank you very much.

1. Because it shows the files found inside archives. You just can't do much with them in that dialog
2. Because it would be very difficult to handle a mix of files from the file system and from archives, especially solid archives where you can't just treat each file separately (this would take forever to unpack the entire archive for each file)
3. ???

Dear ghisler:

Thank you for your reply, My English is poor.

In my case , I just want to search duplicate file and delete it, so if i found the files in archives(.zip) , i will be delete the reqular files.
And maybe I can delete file in archives(.zip) don't need to unpack the archive too.
(this would take forever to unpack the entire archive for each file)
So, if i choose "Treat archives like directories" option, and i configure the archives plugins, and then i don't need to unpack the archives any more, isn't it ?
