Auto rename long file name

Post by *uphie »

Hello

When I do a copy of a folder with TC, i ve got a popup each time there is long file name/path, and we have option to ignore/copy/rename/ etc.

My question is: I have a LOT of this long file name and it will be a pain to rename them one by one with TC. Is there an option to Auto-rename them or auto short them in TC ?

Thanks and have a nice day.

TC help, section 4.b) wrote:LongNameCopy=0
During file operations, warn if target name is longer than 259 characters:
0=always
1=never
2=if source name isn't longer than 259 characters
3=disallow long names
Set this to the value you want/need. That's it.

Note that there's no option to rename such files during the copy operation. But it's simple enough to find long file and/or path names with the help of a plugin like Filename_ChrCount. After using that in TC's search function (Alt+F7), feed the results to the listbox, select all files and call the MRT (Ctrl+M). I admit that renaming is not as simple when the names are completely different, but that's how it is.
