[TC 9.5x] Cross-Application refresh bug

Post by *Rocket »

Hi,

we use TC and a tool called ASGRD (ASG-Remote Desktop, former vRD) which is for managing servers by RDP-protocol in a tree-overview. The software itself has a function to refresh the logged in users on a server in the tree to see who is logged on to these servers - very helpful in RDS-Farms. Now our problem: Since 9.51 while having an UNC-path open in TC the view is reset to C:\ in the instance the ASGRD tool is doing it's user-refresh, which happens every minute. This refresh is by server and has a delay on every server so it resets every few seconds. TC 9.21a (last version we used) did not have this problem and it is in every version since. Took us a while to pinpoint the cause...

Total Commander jumps to c:\ when there is an error reading a certain directory. I don't currently see any reason why this would happen with TC 9.50 but not 9.21a. Therefore could you please make some tests?

You can download old TC versions here:
https://www.totalcommander.ch/win/old/?C=M;O=D

1. Please reinstall TC 9.21a and check whether it really doesn't happen with it. Maybe something else changed in the meantime.
2. If there is no problem with 9.21a, please also try 9.22a. I want to know whether the problem started with 9.22a or 9.50
3. If there is no problem with 9.22a, please also try the beta versions of 9.50:
https://www.ghisler.ch/install/totalcmdbetainst.exe
You can start e.g. with beta 7, and if the problem occurs, try beta 3, and if it doesn't, beta 11. Installation of updates is very fast, so you should be able to find out quickly with which version it starts. This would allow me to check the code changes for possible reasons.

Btw, do you use Total Commander 32-bit or 64-bit?

Hi and sorry for my late reply. I went on informations of a collegue who said that the problem was new since 9.21a. I tested a few version myself and it is there since 9.00 so the source would be ASGRD as it happens since it's latest version (2020). I don't know what it messes around with but keeping a UNC path open in an Explorer window doesn't have any effects. See this issue as closed as I will try to get to the ASGRD support for this.

You can try two things:
1. Disable refresh on activation of Total Commander for these locations:
Configuration - Options - Refresh - No refresh for these drives:
Here you can enter the drive letter(s), and/or a single backslash for all UNC paths.

2. Disable switching away from a path when it becomes unreadable:
Configuration - Change settings files directly: wincmd.ini
under [Configuration] add the line
IgnoreDirErrors=1
