Changing drive forgets folder

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Not exactly.
If the original folder was "c:\Users\prima\Downloads", TC switches back to that one.
If the original folder was "c:\Users\Prima\Downloads", TC switches back to "c:\totalcmd".
On the right I have another folder all the time, not any of those Downloads folder. I only change the path on the left.
If it helps I can create screenshots to better explain the issue.

You write something about a NAS shared folder on the right. Does that have a drive letter like x:\nas_folder or is it an UNC path like \\NAS\nas_folder?

Do you have c:\totalcmd on a DIFFERENT tab in the right panel?
We are not so S.M.A.R.T. as we imagine...

No, 1 tab per panel on both sides.
