View Mode: <default> is not standard mode as expected

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

View Mode: <default> is not standard mode as expected

Post by *oOoZEUSoOo »

Hi,
In the help for View Mode we can read :
Defines one or more view modes. <default> is the standard mode, which is set when none of the rules applies in "Auto Switch Mode".
Actually it's not always the case.

Try this :
- Create a First View Mode let's say 'Color 1'
- Choose the same color for background and background 2 (only for purpose)
- Select <default>
- Confirm
All goes well...

Now try this :
- Create a second View Mode let's say 'Color 2'
- Choose the same color for background and background 2 (only for purpose)
- The cursor on Color 2, Confirm
The view mode become active even if there is no Auto Swich Mode rules. The source list is displayed with the chosen colors.
Meaning that <default> is not standard mode as expected when none of the rules applies in "Auto Switch Mode".

Is this a bug or a bad behavior of this function ?

If it can help, here the part of wincmd.ini :
[ViewModes]
0_name=<Par défaut>
0_icon=
0_options=-1|-1|0||-1|-1|-1|-1|-1
1_name=Couleur1
1_icon=
1_options=-1|-1|0||-1|15790335|15790335|-1|-1
2_name=Couleur2
2_icon=
2_options=-1|-1|0||-1|16773360|16773360|-1|-1

Last information :
I'm using tabs and it seems that the view mode is only active for the active tab when I created and confirmed the selected View Mode.
I mean, I have the same tabs on the left and on the right but the view mode is only active when I select the tab on the left but not the one on the right.

Best Regards, Frederic.

The view mode become active even if there is no Auto Swich Mode rules.
When you define (or edit) a view mode and press "Apply" or "OK" then that mode is applied to the current active file panel ALSO if auto switch mode is not enabled or does not apply.

You can deduct that this behavior is intended from these history entries:

Thank you for your answer.
In my opinion View Mode should be aplied only for an Auto Switch Mode rules.
I'm not sure thas is a good behavior according to the help file but also for the users. We should be able to create View Mode and use them only if we need them with Auto Switch Mode.
May be I miss something because I do not master english language :wink:.

Thanks again ^^

I think it is implemented the way it is, to give the user an immidiate "preview" of how the just created/edited view mode looks like, without having to either namually switching to that mode or to make a location change that triggers an Auto Switch Mode.

Hint: If you don't want a View Mode to be applied after creating/editing it, then just click on the <default> (<Par défaut>) mode before you click the OK/Apply button.

Yes, exactly! The same happens when you define custom columns.
