Unable to delete registry key

Post by *jcrompton »

I was trying to change the function of my softkeys for my HTC TYTn.
I followed a registry hack for WM 5.0 that suggested adding a registry key :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113

After I added this key I found that what I wanted to do did NOT work so I tried to delete the key and that would not work. I tried to restore the registry with a backup and the key was still there!!

There are no values or data listed under the key.
Any thoughts on how to delete?

I don't see a reason why it cannot be deleted. Have you tried to rename it instead?

Right mouse button? On a PocketPC? ... Hm ...

No "Properties" dialogue available and no dialogue to setup any access rights, this is Win2003 (me) or Win2005 (jcrompton) for PocketPCs, not WinNT or above.

Have not tried to create HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113 and then delete it using PHM Registry Editor. So cannot tell why PHM RegEdit might not be able to delete the key.
Maybe Windows locked the key? Have your tried a soft reset?

Maybe the key also contains a space or some other invisible character at the end?

A dumb question, but did you also try TC's registry editor plugin ?

I found that PHM registry editor will not delete or rename some keys (and the TC plugin will, thank you very much !)

If your PocketPC support stylus (i.e. clickable), just try this:
Click on the registry key or value node, and do not loose. Press on it for a little while, you'll see the context menu with "Delete" command.

On my smartphone it worked.
