New icons with an added cost!

Post by *pdavit »

Let’s assume that a 3rd party company or developer is willing to provide some newly created professional icons for TC but will charge the TC developer for that and as a result us the users.

If, for example, the current $28 approx. cost of TC is risen to $29 which means that for every copy of TC $1 will go to an icon developer will that be acceptable by you. Do you think this is fare? Are you willing to pay the extra cost?

I think that if it Christian ask it, many TC users will freely create new icons.

Well, Christian didn't openly ask for them, but any new icons would be very much welcome.

I don't have any plans to increase the price for new icons. I'm thinking about a competition (with a fixed one time price for the winner) for designing a new icon. What do you think?

Sounds nice :-) I'm sure there will be many people willing to win. It's a pity I'm not good at it :-(

for designing a new icon
Only one icon? The default blue disk?

It’s probably a misspelling since Christian said he is not willing to increase TC’s price for new icons.

Then it would be: "a new icons". I don't think so....

but anyway:
I like the blue disk default icon, but I remember Christian writing he wanted to change it because floppy disks are outdated and not really a symbol of reliability and I can see his point. This is a good topic for a competition and hopefully it can be combined with the 10th anniversary. Heck, I'll do an attempt to win the grand prize myself :)

But I think the major request of users is to update/expand the set of icons for internal commands on the buttonbar. The current icons are very basic and there are not enough...

Exactly!

In addition let’s not forget icons “scattered” around TC like the synchronization tool etc. For the file lists what we already have is adequate I think but if we have to have a unified aesthetic these icons need changing as well.

I have collected a considerable number of e-mail addresses from “famous” artistic developers from the well-known web site www.wincustomize.com.

By the time Christian you initiate the icons’ competition I will send an email to all of them to bring into their attention this forum and the corresponding thread.

I’ll be waiting… ;)

Kind regards,
Panos

Why does it have to be an irony?!

I have no reasons to believe that you will win! It’s just the fact that competition makes you produce better results! ;)

Look what I’ve found guys: http://www.wincustomize.com/window.asp?Cmd=PREVIEW&source=http://skins.stardock.com/Pixtudio/wb/softcrystal.jpg

Can you see what’s at the back and how it looks?! (I’m not talking about the skinning software) ;)

Check this also: http://www.everaldo.com (the icon developer of the screen-shot you see on the above link)

…and finally for those with artistic veins willing to do the task:

http://www.axialis.com/iconworkshop/index.html

http://www.microangelo.us/

Edited: Oh by the way! One question Christian. I have extracted TC icons from the dll file and I was wondering if I could post a link to that icl file for those willing to redraw them to something modern and fresh. Can I do that or am I breaking any licensing schemes? Thanks!

That desktop is nice, but it's pretty bloated IMO.You have to custimize your OS environment,so you can work fast with it.TC users don't want huge sh*t,as you can see, most of them dont mind about changing icons anyway.
It would be good to post that ICL file,I can do it myself, but maybe others dont.I'll certainly try to make the icon set, something like default ones, but remade in more colors.Simple & Clean :)

Ok, here it is then: http://www.angelfire.com/theforce/pdavit/TCIconsFull.zip

As far as the posted link with the image, I do follow your opinion for something more practical. I just had to post the link because I found it and because it proves that others do try to make side-changes to TC! ;)

Remark: Please, Christian if you think this file is against TC’s license delete my post freely! :D
