[SOLVED]Multi rename ctrl+M Using 1 txt file with name list + code page problem Latin II UTF-8

Post by *Zuzia »

Hi
Like in subject.
How i can load example 1txt file with 20 difrent name and change that way 20 file name in multi rename tool ctrl+M?
How txt file must looks to work?
I have problem with that becouse when i load name from txt TC wont change only 1st file name on list.

When txt file looks like this.

name 1 name 2 name 3 TC only load that file and in renamer looks like that
------------------------------------------------------------
BAD
my orginal file name > name 1 name 2 name 3
my orginal file name >
my orginal file name >
------------------------------------------------------------
I wont something like this...
GOOD
my orginal file name > name 1
my orginal file name > name 2
my orginal file name > name 3

-------------------------------------------------------------

But please i know how to rename file in TC but i wont do that from list of new name.txt
Here > https://ibb.co/TBRKS7s
How txt file must look? I create 1 and TC tell me txt file have 225 LINE not 1
Then i try short list in line name 1 name 2 and name 3 but not work as i wont coz change only 1 name on ctrl+M list...
How text file must look to load it properly?

Is possible to change all names loading only 1 txt file?
I wait for any help thanks! Cheers from Poland.

OK i solve part 1 my problem was white spaces in file...
But now i wont know if i edit all name form txt file but i dont have *.ext example *.mp4 and TC cant edit name coz [E] is gray not active when i load name from txt file and program dont change name coz no .ext added

It is not really huge, but next to the uppercase/lowercase/... ComboBox on the right you have a folder icon. Click on it you will have a drop down menu with options :
- Load names from files
- Edit Names
- Configure Editor

The file syntax syntax is :

Code: Select all

New Name 01
New Name 02
...
No separator, no arrow, no correspondances, just the order of file.
This is why Edit names is usually the best for me.

This is not a bug.
Such a list would be useless if the extensions are omitted.

This is by design loaded list is the full result..
The list is for new filename including extension, this is not a partial renaming scheme.

What is your system locale? Notepad saves ANSI in codepage of your system locale.

Change your locale to Polish. Even better, change the text editor to another that gives the choice of choosing codepage when saving to non-Unicode format.

I just cannot reproduce such a problem - with Polish locale it always works properly, regardless of coding - ANSI, UTF-8 (with/without BOM) and UTF-16.
But it seems that, for unknown reason you load UTF-8 file as a ANSI.

Is it possible that a stupid "new" feature in Windows has something to do with it? It's called "Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support" and can be found in Windows control panel's regional settings. There have been quite a few issues with this setting in various programs over the last few years.

The problem is that newer versions of notepad save as UTF-8 but without byte order mark (BOM). There is some ambiguity, where valid UTF-8 can also be valid ANSI depending one the encoding.

Try saving the file as UTF-16 LE.

Try saving the file as UTF-16 LE.
In newest version of Notepad, you have all kind of format when saving under encoding option.
Ansi / UTF16-BE / UTF16-LE / UTF8 /UTF8 with BOM

Christian is right by default MS changed encoding from ANSI to UTF8 (No BOM). Be careful when saving to not select UTF8 only or use another text editor.

Update TC, you are probably using the old version.

Code: Select all

29.09.20 Fixed: Multi-rename tool, Edit names: Handle file returned by the editor as UTF-8 without byte order marker even if the file passed to it wasn't UTF-8 (32/64)
